Role Overview
As a Senior Data Scientist at Quantium, you will spearhead the development of advanced Generative AI (GenAI) solutions for major Australian corporations. This role requires technical ownership of AI applications across the full lifecycle from design to deployment and client handover, combining deep technical acumen with a client-focused approach.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop production-quality GenAI and large language model (LLM) applications using Python and cutting-edge AI frameworks such as LangChain and LangGraph.
- Architect AI solutions deploying on leading cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or GCP employing containerization and cloud-native best practices.
- Evaluate and decide on appropriate AI methodologies, balancing classical machine learning, LLM prompting, workflows, and agents for optimal solutions.
- Create frameworks to assess and monitor system performance and quality through observability metrics.
- Build APIs and manage data pipelines leveraging SQL, DBT, and orchestration tools.
- Collaborate closely with clients and subject matter experts to understand complex problems, validate technical approaches, and communicate insights to non-technical stakeholders.
- Perform code reviews, mentor junior colleagues, and uphold rigorous technical standards within the team.
- Contribute to business growth by participating in technical scope definition, solution design, and proposal development.
- Proactively identify and articulate technical risks and trade-offs throughout project phases.
Required Skills and Experience
- Minimum of five years’ experience in data science, AI/machine learning development, or technical consulting roles.
- Demonstrated success delivering end-to-end production-grade AI/ML solutions.
- Strong proficiency in Python programming with solid foundations in software engineering, including testing, maintaining code quality, and version control.
- Practical experience in building GenAI and LLM applications using frameworks like LangChain or LangGraph.
- Hands-on exposure to at least one major cloud platform (AWS, Azure, or GCP) along with containerization technologies such as Docker.
- Comprehensive understanding of ML/AI fundamentals, particularly LLM mechanisms, transformer architectures, and decision-making for varied AI approaches.
- Proficiency with SQL and concepts related to data pipelines.
- Excellent communication skills enabling clear translation of technical concepts for non-technical audiences and establishing client trust.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with data orchestration tools like Airflow or Vertex AI Pipelines and transformation frameworks such as DBT.
- Familiarity with machine learning algorithms including GBM (Gradient Boosting Machines), GLM (Generalized Linear Models), and experimentation tactics like A/B testing.
- Previous roles involving consulting or client-facing delivery environments.
- Experience mentoring or coaching junior technical staff.
- Engagement in open source projects or active participation in technical communities.
