Position Summary

We are looking for a Senior Data Engineer with significant experience to spearhead the architecture, development, and deployment of a robust enterprise-grade Data Lakehouse designed to support a large-scale digital transformation. This includes powering AI-driven agents, digital workforce components, and knowledge graphs. The role is based in Riyadh with responsibility for building a secure platform conforming to strict national data security and residency criteria. Beyond technical execution, this role involves mentoring client engineering teams through collaborative development to enable sustainable platform ownership.

Key Duties

• Architect and implement a unified Data Lakehouse following the Medallion architecture (Bronze, Silver, Gold) using open table formats like Delta Lake or Apache Iceberg on cloud infrastructure within Saudi Arabia.
• Develop reusable automated data ingestion pipelines for processing both structured sources (databases, APIs) and unstructured content (PDFs, policy documents) to supply data for AI and semantic reasoning processes.
• Enforce automated data quality checks including completeness, uniqueness, referential integrity, alongside comprehensive data lineage tracking.
• Enhance data workflows for improved speed, scalability, and cost efficiency.
• Maintain continuous platform operation by proactively monitoring data systems and swiftly addressing critical issues.
• Maintain compliance with National Cybersecurity Authority and National Data Management Office standards, implementing encryption (AES-256), secure transport protocols (TLS 1.2+), key management, and centralized audit logging.
• Design and deploy fine-grained access control using RBAC and ABAC, integrating with enterprise identity providers like Active Directory.
• Lead knowledge transfer including hands-on sessions, pair programming, operational documentation, and resilience testing through failure simulations to empower client engineering teams.

Required Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related disciplines.
• Over 5 years in Data Engineering or Big Data Architecture with a minimum of 2 years leading Data Lakehouse or cloud data platform projects.
• Strong programming skills in Python, Java, or Scala.
• Proficiency in data architecture, complex data modeling, and enterprise schema design.
• Hands-on expertise with distributed processing frameworks such as Apache Spark, Kafka, Hadoop, and with open data table formats like Delta Lake and Apache Iceberg.
• Experience building robust ETL/ELT pipelines using orchestration tools such as Apache Airflow, Prefect, or dbt.
• Familiarity with relational databases including PostgreSQL, MySQL; NoSQL systems like MongoDB, Cassandra; and distributed SQL engines including Hive and Trino.
• Proven deployment experience on cloud platforms, notably Oracle Cloud Infrastructure or Google Cloud Platform localized within Saudi Arabia; AWS or Azure familiarity acceptable.
• Strong analytical abilities and meticulous attention to detail with a passion for high-quality data work.
• Experience constructing data pipelines for Machine Learning, NLP, vector embeddings, or knowledge graphs is highly desirable.
• Understanding of enterprise security concepts: private network endpoints, IAM, cryptographic key management.
• Excellent communication skills capable of explaining complex technical information to non-technical audiences.
• Proven leadership in managing technical teams and facilitating smooth handovers to internal IT or data departments.
• Knowledge of Saudi data governance regulations such as NCA CCC, NDMO, and SDAIA is preferred.
