About the Role
The Senior Data Engineer at Westpac New Zealand plays a key role in crafting, implementing, and sustaining top-tier data solutions. This position focuses heavily on Java engineering within the Data Platforms and AI team. The role entails leading the creation of scalable, secure, and efficient data platforms that underpin Westpac's innovative banking products and services. Collaboration with cross-disciplinary teams is essential to develop robust data pipelines, streaming mechanisms, and APIs, ensuring effective data management to aid business insights. Embracing agile methodologies, DevOps practices, and cloud technologies, this position champions ongoing enhancements and supports Westpac's vision as a customer-focused and future-oriented institution.
Key Responsibilities and Requirements
- Expertise with Snowflake for building, optimizing, and managing cloud data warehouses.
- Hands-on experience with dbt (Data Build Tool) for data transformations and analytics engineering.
- Advanced Python programming skills tailored to constructing data solutions on current cloud platforms.
- Proficient SQL development, including writing complex queries, performance tuning, and troubleshooting.
- Experience utilizing Apache Spark (PySpark and Spark SQL) for processing large datasets and distributed computations.
- Proven ability to design, build, and uphold scalable and reliable data pipelines.
- Knowledge in scheduling and orchestrating workflows with Apache Airflow.
- Solid understanding of data warehousing concepts, data modeling, and contemporary data architecture principles.
- Work experience developing cloud data solutions with Snowflake, dbt, Python, SQL, and Azure environments.
