Senior Cybersecurity Engineer - Defense Operations

About the Role

Motional is seeking a talented Senior Cybersecurity Engineer to strengthen our Defense Operations team. This hands-on role involves frontline security operations to monitor, manage, and enhance our on-premise, SaaS, and cloud security platforms. You will work closely with internal cyber teams, external partners, and cross-functional stakeholders to maintain robust defense practices.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead incident response activities including detection, containment, eradication, remediation, recovery, and post-incident analysis to improve security posture.
• Serve as primary APAC contact for third-party managed detection and response (MDR) providers, overseeing incident triaging, escalation, and threat hunting efforts.
• Manage and continuously optimize critical Defense Operations tools such as SIEM, EDR, cloud security, email security, and vulnerability management solutions.
• Collaborate with cybersecurity and engineering teams to advance cloud-native security operations and tooling.
• Partner with other departments like DevOps, IT, HR, and Engineering to proactively identify and mitigate cybersecurity risks.
• Provide expert technical guidance for vulnerability management programs, ensuring timely remediation of significant threats.
• Develop and maintain security documentation including procedures, playbooks, and runbooks, with emphasis on MDR-related processes.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Systems, Information Technology, or equivalent practical experience.
• Minimum five years of direct experience in cybersecurity operations, security operations center (SOC), incident response, or cybersecurity engineering.
• Strong capability in analyzing security alerts and logs from various cybersecurity and IT platforms (SIEM, EDR, SEG, CNAPP, IAM, OS logs, application logs).
• Hands-on experience investigating and mitigating cybersecurity incidents aligned with frameworks such as NIST or ISO.
• Solid knowledge of cloud-native security practices, preferably with AWS experience.
• Expertise in deploying and managing SIEM and EDR technologies like Splunk, Microsoft, Crowdstrike.
• Proficiency in vulnerability scanning and CVE impact analysis within vulnerability management workflows.
• Basic scripting skills for security automation (Python, Bash, PowerShell).
• Excellent analytical, diagnostic, and problem-solving abilities.
• Strong written and oral communication skills, capable of producing technical documentation and presentations for diverse audiences.
• Ability to work autonomously or collaboratively in a dynamic environment.
• Experience collaborating with third-party MDR providers.
• Demonstrated curiosity and a strong security mindset.

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with identity and access management tools and protocols like Okta, SSO, and SAML.
• Experience with Terraform infrastructure-as-code technology is advantageous.
