Its Cyber61 division offers expertise in cybersecurity consulting, governance, risk and compliance (GRC), security architecture, assurance, and managed security services throughout Australia. As this practice expands, we are seeking a seasoned Senior Cyber Security Consultant to join our team in either Brisbane or Canberra.

Role Overview

This position involves a diverse, client-facing cybersecurity consultancy that emphasizes governance, risk, compliance, and technical security rather than a single niche. The role requires engaging directly with clients, technical teams, and high-level stakeholders to interpret security needs into actionable, practical solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide cybersecurity consulting and advisory services to government and commercial clients.
• Conduct cyber risk assessments and devise effective risk mitigation strategies.
• Analyze and apply various security frameworks, transforming requirements into feasible security controls.
• Advise on secure design, architecture, implementation, and configuration of ICT environments.
• Utilize frameworks such as ASD Information Security Manual (ISM), Essential Eight, PSPF, DISP/DSPF, and ISO/IEC 27001.
• Assist in managing and improving Digital61's ISO 27001 Information Security Management System.
• Develop comprehensive security policies, standards, procedures, plans, risk assessments, and documentation.
• Support security assurance and compliance initiatives across client environments.
• Contribute cybersecurity expertise to proposals, tenders, solution architectures, and pre-sales activities.
• Collaborate closely with consultants, architects, engineers, and the Managed SOC team for full-spectrum security delivery.
• Stay updated on emerging cyber threats, adversary tactics, and industry trends.
• Establish trust with clients and convey complex security concepts clearly to technical and executive audiences alike.

Required Qualifications and Skills

• Proven experience in cybersecurity consulting, information security, governance, risk, compliance, or security assurance.
• In-depth knowledge of ISO 27001, including ISMS implementation, operation, and auditing.
• Familiarity with Australian Government cybersecurity frameworks such as ISM, Essential Eight, and PSPF.
• Expertise in performing cybersecurity risk assessments and creating treatment plans.
• Strong understanding of security control design and implementation.
• Experience managing and delivering security projects or consulting directly with clients.
• Excellent written communication skills capable of producing detailed security documentation.
• Confidence in communicating with technical teams, executive leadership, and client stakeholders.
• Capacity to handle multiple client engagements and competing priorities efficiently.
• Pragmatic approach to interpreting frameworks, assessing risks, and determining essential actions for clients.

Highly Preferred Credentials

• Professional certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CRISC, ISO 27001 Lead Implementer or Lead Auditor.
• Experience within Australian Government settings.
• Knowledge of Defence security protocols including DISP.
• Background in security operations, incident response, or SOC environments.
• Expertise in Microsoft security platforms, including Microsoft 365, Defender, Sentinel, Entra ID, and Azure.
• Experience supporting tenders, proposals, and customer solution design activities.

Security Clearance

Applicants must be Australian citizens possessing an NV1 or higher security clearance to be eligible for this position.
