Job description

About GitLab

GitLab is a leading intelligent orchestration solution for DevSecOps, empowering organizations to boost developer productivity, enhance operational efficiency, mitigate security and compliance risks, and accelerate digital transformation. It serves over 50 million registered users including more than half of the Fortune 100 companies that rely on its platform to deliver superior, secure software rapidly. Our culture is rooted in leveraging AI to multiply productivity, continuous knowledge exchange, and fostering innovation and inclusion. Join GitLab to build transformative software and advance your career.

Role Overview

As a Senior Customer Experience (CX) Platform Engineer, you will design and implement AI-driven workflows for GitLab's CX teams using Claude Code and the GitLab Duo Agent Platform. You will be accountable for creating, testing, securing, and owning agentic software solutions that advance CX initiatives. This position emphasizes software engineering rather than internal IT support, AI evangelism without production code, or customer-billable services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Utilize Claude Code, GitLab Duo, and other coding agents as your primary development tools for planning, coding, refactoring, testing, code reviews, and documentation, overseeing every production release.
  • Develop and maintain shared agent tooling including AGENTS.md standards, slash commands, subagent definitions, and CI checks; measure effectiveness and maintain reusable agent patterns.
  • Deliver multi-step agents for account research, success planning, scoping, status reporting, and onboarding, packaging them for use by non-engineers across platforms.
  • Construct Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers and connectors facilitating secure and auditable access to enterprise systems including GitLab, Salesforce, Gainsight, Kantata, Thought Industries, Gong, and Snowflake.
  • Manage AWS infrastructure (ECS, RDS, Lambda), Terraform configurations, and application scaffolds for the CX Application Platform and associated applications like PS Compass and GitLab University.
  • Produce high-quality Python and TypeScript code verified through GitLab’s CI/CD pipeline, ensuring tests, observability, security assessment, and comprehensive documentation are in place.
  • Rapidly prototype solutions alongside CX stakeholders and empower them to bring solutions into production, translating field knowledge to reusable development patterns.
  • Provide mentorship across technical and non-technical team members, contribute to upstream GitLab projects, and enhance code quality standards.

Candidate Profile

  • Proven ability to develop and operate production software over extended projects from ambiguous requirements to production-ready solutions emphasizing reusability and maintainability.
  • Regular, hands-on experience with AI coding agents such as Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, or GitLab Duo in live production environments with measurable quality impact.
  • Expertise with large language models beyond conversational AI, including tool integration, MCP servers, agent loops, context retrieval, prompt engineering, and evaluation methodologies.
  • Strong programming skills in Python (FastAPI or Flask) and TypeScript (Vue or React), with a focus on API design, authentication, authorization, and securely managing customer data.
  • Practical experience working with AWS ECS, RDS, Lambda, Terraform, Docker, and application security including single sign-on solutions like Okta.
  • Competence integrating enterprise systems using REST and GraphQL APIs, alongside proficiency in Git, code reviews, and automated CI/CD practices.
  • Ability to translate business and stakeholder workflows into clear technical designs and promote asynchronous communication via documentation and enablement resources. Familiarity with GitLab workflows and values is expected.
  • Additional advantages include experience customizing agent harnesses, working with GitLab Development Kit and Duo Agent Platform, enterprise agent governance, CX platforms such as Salesforce and Gainsight, Snowflake or equivalent data warehouses, and contributions to technical writing or open source projects focused on agentic development.

The Team

The CX Platform Engineering team builds and operates applications for Customer Success and Professional Services, managing platform infrastructure and application portfolios such as GitLab University and PS Compass. Our approach prioritizes democratizing ownership and building scalable solutions over individual heroics.
