Senior Core Software Engineer

About the Role

We are seeking a seasoned backend engineer skilled in navigating challenging production environments to join Beyond Sports as a Senior Core Software Engineer. In this role, you'll be instrumental in maintaining and enhancing the robustness, scalability, and reliability of our global backend systems that power real-time sports experiences.

Key Responsibilities

Daily tasks include spearheading incident responses for critical production issues, conducting root cause analyses, and implementing durable solutions that preserve uninterrupted service. You will collaborate closely with backend developers, infrastructure experts, and product managers to secure the stability of our live environments. Hands-on involvement with distributed systems troubleshooting, database query optimization, and live data stream management is essential.

Additionally, you will develop preventative monitoring practices and automation tools, create comprehensive end-to-end automated integration tests, configure alerting mechanisms with Grafana or Prometheus, and provide mentorship to junior colleagues to enhance operational practices.

Core Skills and Experience

Ideal candidates bring a proven history of managing distributed system operations and troubleshooting at scale. Expertise with AWS services such as ECS, CDK, Lambda, Cognito, and CloudFront, along with Infrastructure as Code methodologies, is required. Experience with real-time streaming platforms like Kafka or RabbitMQ is key, accompanied by proficiency in object-oriented programming languages like C# (.NET). Strong SQL knowledge and database performance tuning abilities are also crucial.

Hands-on experience with monitoring tools including Prometheus, Grafana, CloudWatch, or Datadog is expected. Familiarity with modern CI/CD pipelines and automation scripting for integration testing is important. Experience working within real-time sports technology or media streaming environments is advantageous but not mandatory.
