Job description

About the Role

We are searching for a skilled Senior Computer Vision Engineer to join a stealth-mode startup in Berlin focused on developing next-generation defense technologies. The core challenge is robust multi-UAS tracking utilising IR/thermal imagery complemented by laser range finders, radar, and IMU data inputs. Your primary responsibility will be managing the tracking layer in the perception stack, ensuring consistent, low-latency, and confidence-rated tracking through real-time environmental noise, occlusions, and clutter to generate accurate target state estimations for precise control applications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and enhance multi-UAS tracking workflows, covering the entire cycle from track initiation to reacquisition following loss events.
  • Optimize state estimation and filtering algorithms including Kalman, Extended Kalman Filter (EKF), and Unscented Kalman Filter (UKF) focusing on position, velocity, trajectory, and uncertainty quantification.
  • Address unique IR/thermal imaging challenges such as low resolution pixel footprints, weak contrasts, thermal background clutter, and motion blur.
  • Integrate and fuse visual tracking data with radar, laser range finder (LRF), and inertial measurement unit (IMU) inputs in collaboration with robotics and control engineers.
  • Deploy and enhance system performance on embedded edge computing devices, particularly NVIDIA Jetson and Tegra platforms, utilizing TensorRT and CUDA technologies.
  • Investigate real-world field data and track failure scenarios to continuously improve tracker robustness and reliability.

Candidate Requirements

  • Minimum of 6 years' experience in computer vision, visual tracking, or practical perception system development.
  • Demonstrated expertise in multi-object tracking and tracking-by-detection methodologies.
  • Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with state estimation techniques including Kalman, EKF, and UKF filters.
  • Capability to handle noisy, real-world video datasets beyond standard benchmark conditions.
  • Proficiency in Python programming and production-level C++ development.
  • Experience with deploying AI models on edge computing devices such as Jetson or Tegra, including optimization via TensorRT and CUDA frameworks.
  • Availability to work full-time onsite in Berlin, Monday through Friday.

Additional Preferred Qualifications

  • Background or experience related to defense, aerospace, or autonomous systems.
  • Specific experience with IR/thermal tracking techniques.
  • Familiarity with fusing radar and laser range finder data into tracking pipelines.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive base salary up to €100,000 annually plus equity through VSOPs.
  • Work in a centrally located Berlin office.
  • Opportunity for significant responsibility on a rapidly scaling, mission-critical product.
  • Additional perks including holiday allowance, monthly vouchers, and public transportation subsidies.
