Senior Commercial Manager

About the Role

An international engineering consultancy firm is recruiting an experienced Senior Commercial Manager to join a significant Cargo Terminal and International Airport development project in East Africa. This senior role demands expertise in commercial management and quantity surveying, emphasizing cost control, contract administration, procurement, and overall commercial oversight.

Key Responsibilities

• Direct and supervise all commercial and quantity surveying activities through the project’s duration.
• Manage both pre-contract and post-contract commercial tasks such as cost planning, tender evaluations, procurement processes, valuations, handling variations, and final account settlements.
• Offer strategic counsel to the Project Management team and Client on cost and commercial issues.
• Identify, control, and address contractual and commercial risks, supporting resolution and avoidance of disputes.
• Monitor and analyze project expenditures, budgets, financial forecasts, and commercial outcomes.
• Ensure proper contract administration and management throughout construction phases.
• Liaise effectively with consultants, contractors, and various stakeholders on commercial topics.
• Prepare commercial reports and advise senior project leaders accordingly.

Candidate Requirements

• A recognized university degree in Quantity Surveying, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related area.
• At least 15 years of pertinent professional background in Quantity Surveying, Cost Management, and Commercial Management for substantial and intricate building projects.
• A minimum of 5 years specializing in pre- and post-contract commercial roles on large international airport developments is strongly preferred.
• Experience with international airports handling more than 20 million annual passengers or 2 million tonnes cargo is beneficial.
• Professional accreditation as a Chartered Quantity Surveyor or equivalent qualification.
• Comprehensive understanding of building construction principles, contract law, quantity surveying processes, procurement, and dispute management.
• Robust commercial and contractual management skills.
• Proficient communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Advanced capabilities in Microsoft Office and specialized commercial or quantity surveying software.
• International project exposure, particularly in Africa or similar emerging markets, is advantageous.
