Job description

Overview

The Senior Cloud FinOps Engineer will manage CNTXT's financial liability as a Google Cloud reseller, overseeing customer consumption billing where controls reside within client workloads. This position develops and maintains a billing-data platform that improves visibility from a monthly lag of up to 72 hours down to near real-time hourly insight. The role involves active management of consumption monitoring, account compromise responses, enforcement per established protocols, and managing claims with Google. This function adheres to centralized FinOps standards and provides a foundational control framework for future multi-cloud expansions.

Scope & Collaboration

  • Responsible for all CNTXT Google Cloud billing IDs, online and offline, including reseller customers, with future plans towards multi-cloud coverage.
  • Individual contributor role with functional leadership to the Billing Operations Analyst and builds groundwork for future hires.
  • Enforces actions such as alerts, caps, suspensions, and reactivations within prescribed mandates, escalating when needed.
  • Manages tooling development roadmap and budget.
  • Provides monthly reporting on financial exposure, incidents, and recoveries to the Executive Management Team.

Engages regularly with internal teams such as billing operations, finance, cybersecurity, sales, legal, and external entities including Google partners, abuse teams, and customers, ensuring coordinated incident management and communication.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain billing-data pipelines and dashboards to enable near real-time visibility across multiple billing IDs.
  • Design and implement anomaly detection against customer consumption baselines, integrate alerts into case workflows, and uphold triage service level agreements.
  • Lead incident management processes for compromised accounts, including detection, verification, containment, notification, recovery, and post-incident reviews based on a detailed runbook.
  • Handle claims and disputes with Google, compiling evidence packs and managing communication around abuse reports and credit claims.
  • Produce governance reports for executive leadership, contribute contractual and policy guidance, and drive development towards multi-cloud FinOps management.

Technical Details

  • Build and operate data pipelines using Cloud Billing exports to BigQuery, designing consumption models that account for baseline usage, seasonality, and zero-invoice credit accounts.
  • Implement anomaly detection for indicators like sudden spikes, GPU/compute usage bursts, irregular regions or services, and integrate signals from Google's Security Command Center.
  • Automate enforcement actions (alerts, caps, suspensions, reactivations) with tiered authorization processes.
  • Maintain a disciplined approach to credit claims with comprehensive documentation and timelines, including special handling for cryptomining cases.
  • Collaborate with cybersecurity teams to promote Security Command Center adoption among high-risk customers.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Finance, or related field; equivalent specialized experience is also acceptable.
  • Over 6 years’ experience in cloud operations, FinOps engineering, revenue assurance, or fraud operations with practical experience building systems and leading incident processes.
  • Experience managing cases with defined service level agreements and reporting to executives.
  • Leadership or managerial experience is advantageous; prior work with major cloud provider partner programs (Microsoft CSP, AWS Solution Provider) is highly valued.

Certifications & Language

  • Preferred certification: FinOps Certified Practitioner.
  • Fluency in English with strong executive-level communication skills; Arabic proficiency is strongly preferred.

Key Competencies

  • Expertise in Google Cloud Billing and reseller business models including billing subaccounts, budgets, and caps.
  • Proficiency with SQL, Google BigQuery, and Python for pipeline creation, data modeling, and dashboarding; familiarity with Terraform is a bonus.
  • Experience in detecting anomalies and integrating cloud security signals for compromise detection.
  • Skill in managing runbook-driven incident and case workflows with clear SLAs and escalation paths.
  • Strong financial and commercial understanding related to reconciliation, exposure management, credit claims, and contractual terms with the ability to communicate these effectively to executives.
