Job description

Position Overview

We seek a Senior Capital Actuary to strengthen our regulatory and economic capital modelling efforts, chiefly supporting Solvency II reporting and business-wide strategic decisions. This role resides within the Capital Modelling team, focused on sustaining and evolving our Internal Model (Igloo) to ensure robustness and compliance while aligning with organizational objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive the preparation of regulatory capital (Solvency II) and internal economic capital calculations.
  • Maintain and enhance the Internal Model including coding improvements, parameter updates, governance, and optimization of calculation components to meet regulatory standards and best practices.
  • Address regulatory feedback proactively by monitoring model limitations, assessing risks, and escalating where necessary.
  • Manage the annual model cycle end-to-end—from data validation and parameter setting through to calibration, testing, validation, and stress testing.
  • Communicate complex model outputs effectively into comprehensible reports and actionable insights for senior leadership, committees, and regulators.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to build strong stakeholder relationships and mentor junior actuarial staff to enhance team capabilities.

Candidate Profile

  • Fully qualified actuary (IFoA or equivalent).
  • Extensive experience with Solvency II and UK Internal Model frameworks.
  • Solid background in capital modelling with expertise in stochastic methods.
  • Experience in personal lines insurance such as Motor and Household.
  • Proven leadership skills and ability to mentor team members.
  • Proficient in actuarial modelling platforms like Igloo or equivalents.
  • Strong capacity to manage senior relationships and influence decision-makers.
  • Exceptional communication skills to distill intricate technical details into strategic business insights.
  • Experienced presenter to Boards, non-executive directors, and regulatory bodies.
  • Highly organized, adept at managing multiple priorities and deadlines efficiently.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and MS Office suite.

Preferred: Commercial acumen with an ability to align modelling results with business strategy; experience in automating or enhancing modelling workflows.

Work Environment and Benefits

  • A collaborative, high-performance actuarial team environment.
  • Engagement with complex, vital modelling projects influencing key business decisions.
  • Opportunity to actively shape and refine the Internal Model architecture.
  • Commitment to professional development and career progression.
  • Flexible and supportive culture promoting work-life balance.
  • 33 days of annual leave including bank holidays, increasing up to 38 days with tenure, with options to buy or sell additional leave days.
  • Employee share scheme offering up to £3,600 in free shares annually after one year of employment.
  • A strong pledge to diversity, inclusion, and equal opportunity, recognized as a workplace excelling in inclusion and wellbeing.
