Senior Applied Scientist - International Machine Learning

Role Overview

We seek a highly skilled scientist to join our innovative team focused on leveraging machine learning and statistics to develop cutting-edge solutions tailored to enhance value for Amazon's customers. This role involves creating and deploying scalable algorithmic systems that optimize millions of daily transactions. You will work extensively with large datasets, analyzing and modeling terabytes of data to tackle real-world challenges, owning end-to-end business problems and metrics with direct influence on company profitability. The ideal candidate is entrepreneurial, data-driven, deeply technical, innovative, and passionate about building impactful solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop scalable business solutions using machine learning and analytical methodologies
• Analyze Amazon's extensive historical business data to automate and optimize critical processes
• Design, develop, evaluate, and deploy innovative and scalable predictive learning models
• Research and apply novel machine learning and statistical techniques
• Collaborate closely with software engineering teams on real-time model deployment and feature innovation
• Partner with business stakeholders and operations to enhance business operations via ML applications
• Create scalable, efficient, and automated workflows for large-scale data analysis, model development, validation, and implementation
• Mentor fellow scientists and engineers on machine learning technologies and best practices
• Evangelize new algorithms and lead implementation of complex large-scale ML models in production
• Lead projects and provide knowledge-sharing to grow the ML capabilities of the team

Team Context

The International Machine Learning Team focuses on developing innovative machine learning solutions targeting challenges unique to India and emerging markets such as MENA and Latin America, significantly impacting both top-line and bottom-line results for Amazon's India business.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 7 years experience developing machine learning models for practical business applications
• Master's degree or PhD in a relevant field
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, C++, Python, or equivalents
• Experience with neural networks and deep learning approaches
• Preferred: Familiarity with ML and modeling frameworks including R, scikit-learn, Spark MLLib, MxNet, TensorFlow, numpy, and scipy
• Preferred: Experience working with distributed systems like Hadoop and Spark
