About the Role
Join Yelp's engineering team where collaboration and authenticity drive our culture. Each engineer contributes by deploying working code from their first week, supported by mentors and peers. The Application Security team is dedicated to safeguarding Yelp's users, internal services, and applications, collaborating closely with engineering groups across mobile, frontend, and backend domains. This role focuses on creating secure frameworks and tools that scale with Yelp's diverse and growing product ecosystem.
Key Responsibilities
- Work alongside cross-disciplinary engineering teams to conduct threat modeling, security assessments, and design secure libraries to enhance application and service security.
- Develop and implement security services for user login and account protection for Yelp’s web and mobile platforms.
- Assist with security incident responses and manage operational tasks such as handling bug bounty submissions and reviewing vulnerabilities reported by internal tools.
- Design and automate systems to detect, prevent, and mitigate security threats within Yelp’s applications and infrastructure.
- Promote security best practices and integrate policies within the entire software development lifecycle.

Candidate Profile
- Experienced software generalist passionate about application security.
- Multiple years’ experience in software engineering specializing in application security.
- Solid knowledge of web application, mobile, API, and cloud security principles.
- Understanding of common vulnerabilities including the OWASP Top 10.
- Proficient in modern programming languages such as Python, Java, JavaScript (React), Swift, and/or Objective-C.
- Hands-on security research and penetration testing experience are advantageous.
- Aptitude for analyzing and navigating unfamiliar codebases effectively.
