Role Summary

We are looking for a seasoned Senior Android Applications Developer to create and sustain essential Android applications that support public safety communications and operational data systems. These apps are critical tools for emergency services, designed to perform reliably in challenging field conditions with limited connectivity and intricate device integrations.

Responsibilities

• Develop, test, and maintain robust Android apps prioritizing Kotlin-first approaches.
• Create mobile solutions resilient to network disruptions, ensuring offline capabilities and fault tolerance.
• Design modern user interfaces using Jetpack Compose optimized for high-pressure scenarios.
• Implement scalable, modular application architectures such as MVVM and Clean Architecture to accommodate complex multi-feature apps.
• Integrate mobile apps with backend platforms, real-time messaging systems, and device services via RESTful, streaming, and event-driven APIs.
• Maintain integrations with Bluetooth, radio communication devices, sensors, GPS/location services, and corresponding background processes.
• Optimize applications for performance, battery life, and steadfast reliability during continuous operation.
• Ensure secure communication and data protection aligning with stringent enterprise and public safety standards.
• Contribute to automated testing strategies including unit, integration, and instrumentation tests to maintain release quality.
• Support Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment pipelines along with the monitoring and operation of deployed mobile apps.
• Engage in technical design reviews, mentor fellow developers, and advocate for high standards in engineering and architecture.
• Troubleshoot, analyze root causes, and apply lasting solutions for issues encountered in production environments.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• Proficient experience in developing production-grade Android applications using Kotlin and Android SDK.
• Expertise in designing fault-tolerant, enterprise-level, mission-critical mobile applications.
• Competent with modern Android UI frameworks including Jetpack Compose.
• Deep understanding of Android architecture components including ViewModel, Navigation, Lifecycle, and WorkManager.
• Experience implementing offline-first data synchronization, caching methods, and conflict resolution.
• Hands-on knowledge with Bluetooth, device integration, background processing, and hardware-related APIs.
• Familiarity with networking libraries such as Retrofit, OkHttp, or Ktor.
• Strong skills in debugging, performance enhancement, and secure coding best practices.
• Experience using Git for source control in collaborative environments.
• Excellent communication and teamwork capabilities within diverse cross-functional teams.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience with public safety, defense, or regulated enterprise mobile platforms.
• Background integrating with radio communication or real-time messaging platforms like push-to-talk systems.
• Expertise in secure mobile architectures involving certificate authentication, encrypted storage, and secure app builds.
• Knowledge of dependency injection frameworks such as Hilt or Dagger.
• Understanding of modular Android architectures for large-scale apps.
• Experience mentoring peers and leading technical projects.
• Familiarity with Agile or Scrum frameworks supporting multi-team deliveries.
• Awareness of Kotlin Multiplatform for shared business logic and Compose Multiplatform for multi-platform UI components.
• Experience with Firebase, observability solutions, and mobile telemetry systems.
