Senior Analyst

About the Role

This Wellington-based, full-time permanent position offers the chance to use your skills in statistical and economic modelling alongside data analysis to address pressing health challenges in New Zealand. The salary range is NZD 97,607 to NZD 130,142, dependent on experience and qualifications. Benefits include 4.4 weeks of annual leave and a wellness allowance available after 12 months of employment.

Key Responsibilities

• Integrate and evaluate data from varied sources including the Integrated Data Infrastructure (IDI) and administrative health datasets to provide evidence-based guidance to policymakers.
• Utilize statistical and economic modelling techniques to analyze health policy scenarios.
• Lead projects focused on data analysis, foster skill sharing, and provide mentorship to team members.
• Develop and maintain strong collaborations within the Ministry and the wider health sector to contribute towards the health and wellbeing of all New Zealanders.
• Spend roughly half the time on quantitative analysis and modelling, with the remainder dedicated to interpreting results, stakeholder engagement, and advising on practical policy decisions.

Qualifications and Skills

• Proven experience applying quantitative methods such as statistical modelling, econometrics, epidemiology, or forecasting to strategic or policy issues.
• Advanced problem-solving and critical thinking capabilities with quick learning aptitude.
• Capability to manage ambiguous situations by framing complex problems and selecting appropriate analytical techniques without clear-cut solutions.
• Proficiency in quantitative tools like R and SQL.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of conveying complex information clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• A team-oriented mindset.
• Commitment to the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi with an understanding of the associated obligations for data governance, analysis, and reporting.
• Familiarity with the health sector is advantageous but not mandatory.
