Security Engineer, Google Threat Intelligence

About the Role

Join Google's Security team in Sydney or Singapore to help maintain one of the safest online environments globally. This position focuses on advanced threat intelligence efforts, specifically countering government-backed cyber threats targeting Google, its products, and users. As part of the Google Threat Intelligence Group (GTIG), you will track and analyze sophisticated cyber adversaries and produce critical intelligence for internal teams and external security communities.

Key Responsibilities

• Investigate and document network signals, malware characteristics, and threat intelligence concerning emerging tactics, techniques, and procedures of threat actors.
• Deliver clear, actionable intelligence to security and product teams to protect corporate and production systems.
• Lead detailed analysis of multiple threat actors, becoming an expert on their potential impacts on Google and users.
• Improve analysis workflows by designing automation solutions, developing proof-of-concept code, and collaborating with stakeholders to implement these tools.
• Effectively prioritize and manage multiple tasks independently while ensuring high-quality work within deadlines.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience.
• At least five years of experience conducting security assessments, design reviews, or threat modeling.
• Minimum five years of experience in security engineering, including computer and network security, protocols, and software coding in one or more general-purpose languages.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with detection engineering using YARA, Snort/Suricata, and creating EDR rules.
• Proficiency in Python, C/C++, or scripting languages.
• Background in reverse engineering techniques.
• Strong understanding of network fundamentals, lateral movement tactics, malware persistence, covert channels, application security, user authentication, and command and control mechanisms.
• Excellent communication and documentation skills.
