Overview

We are seeking a Security Design Manager to play a pivotal role in a major design and construction project within the rail sector based in London, Eastern Region. This position offers an annual salary range from £51,037 to £66,111, including a flexible fund, alongside additional benefits.

Role Summary

The Security Design Manager will be responsible for providing expert security consultancy and assurance to ensure all design activities comply with technical, operational, and security standards. Acting as the main security liaison between the client and supply chain, this role involves overseeing the production and validation of security design deliverables and offering line of defence assurance throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee security design assurance activities while delivering specialist guidance to project teams and contractors.
  • Support the deployment of Her Majesty's Government standards and guidance, including Department for Transport protocols related to station security design.
  • Deliver security design justification and validation to Security Steering Committees and Design Panels.
  • Contribute to the project-wide Hazard Record through threat analysis and compilation of compliance evidence.
  • Evaluate plans, assessments, and designs to ensure alignment with legal regulations, industry standards, and engineering best practices.
  • Advise high-level security and safety stakeholders regarding the compliance and acceptance of security designs.
  • Assist in the testing, commissioning, and verification processes of completed infrastructure assets.

Candidate Profile

  • In-depth understanding of security design assurance philosophies, preferably with experience in Critical National Infrastructure environments.
  • Expertise in physical security standards, principles, and guidelines.
  • Familiarity with security technology systems, blast protection measures, and hostile vehicle mitigation principles and devices.
  • Proven experience in validating constructed assets through all stages from design through testing and commissioning.
  • Strong ability to exercise sound judgement when assessing regulatory compliance and the adequacy of submitted evidence.
  • Proficient in engaging with multiple stakeholders, including the ability to confidently challenge senior-level external personnel.
  • Possession of a degree in Security, Engineering, or closely related field, or commensurate experience.
