Job Overview
The Secondary Librarian will actively contribute to the school's growth and accreditation efforts, supporting the institution's mission. This role involves fostering a dynamic learning environment that champions participatory learning and collaboration with faculty, integrating modern teaching technologies, and ensuring access to digital resources for the community.
Key Responsibilities
- Support district policy development related to material selection, circulation, copyrights, privacy, and acceptable use.
- Maintain professional currency in library science, technology, and educational research relevant to school library programs.
- Preserve historical library documents and safeguard library materials.
- Provide access to books and resources for student research under supervision.
- Promote reading and information literacy through managing inquiry support and eResource accessibility.
- Collaborate with teaching staff to plan and implement information curriculum and accelerated reader programs.
- Lead reading sessions for Key Stage 3, assisting weaker readers, and manage KS3 library lessons independently as needed.
- Oversee student reading assessments and provide progress reports to teachers.
- Deliver school-wide training on effective use of library resources, catalogues, and databases.
- Develop and maintain a diverse collection of learning resources in various formats aligned to inquiry-based learning.
- Assist students in study skills and independent learning across key stages.
- Manage cataloguing, organization, and maintenance of resources according to library standards.
- Monitor emerging trends for eResource storage and access.
- Create buying strategies ensuring high-quality materials in print and online.
- Maintain and update the Integrated Library System with bibliographic and catalogue data.
- Promote library services to staff and students and keep procedures current.
- Lead initiatives fostering a culture of reading throughout the school, including programs, events, and resources catering to diverse interests.
- Handle circulation tasks such as book issues, returns, reservations, and managing records of overdues, lost items, and fines.
- Ensure student safety and adherence to library policies during use of library facilities.
- Prepare displays and organize scheduled library events.
- Manage library financial estimates and budget, balancing stock diversity and inclusivity.
- Provide leadership in information resource management, ethical information use, equitable access, and copyright compliance.
- Expand cooperation and networking with other libraries and organizations for resource sharing.
- Use emerging technologies to support teaching, learning, and provide continuous access to library services.
