Role Purpose
The Screener is tasked with ensuring the safety and efficiency of hold baggage screening, complying with regulatory standards, and identifying prohibited or dangerous items. Responsibilities include operating screening technology, documenting inspections, cooperating with security teams, and engaging with passengers to uphold superior security standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Complete all mandatory regulatory trainings and pass all required assessments.
- Use X-BIS equipment for analyzing baggage images to detect hazardous goods, weapons, ammunition, or prohibited articles as per aviation security directives.
- Conduct physical inspections and Explosive Trace Detection (ETD) tests on baggage flagged during X-ray screening.
- Maintain high Threat Image Projection (TIP) scores, demonstrating strong image interpretation skills.
- Comply with BCAS and DGCA regulations during baggage handling and inspection activities.
- Document all screening outcomes for audits and inspections adherence.
- Perform routine functional checks of X-BIS, ETD, CT-EDS, and other security machinery to ensure operational readiness.
- Report any equipment issues and assist in maintaining operational logs.
- Collaborate effectively with CISF and airline staff during baggage inspections or when resolving suspicious items.
- Provide supervisors with timely updates about ongoing operations or issues requiring attention.
- Ensure screening processes are thorough yet timely to prevent operational delays.
- Uphold professionalism, discipline, and workplace decorum, contributing positively to team dynamics.
Important Stakeholders
Internal interactions include CSO, Lead Avsec Audit & Compliance, Pass Section, ILHBS and Terminal Operations, IT, HR, Compliance teams, and other airport departments such as Customer Service. External coordination involves TSA, aircraft operators, airport authorities, passengers, ASG, BCAS, local police, service providers, law enforcement agencies, regulatory bodies, and industry associations.
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum education: High school diploma or equivalent; a bachelor's degree or equivalent is preferred.
- Required certifications: TSA certification is mandatory. Preferable certifications include BCAS AVSEC basic course, standalone or inline screener certification by BCAS, and DGR CAT 12 certification from DGCA-approved centers.
- NCC "B" or "C" certificate holders are given preference.
- Experience: Open to freshers or candidates with 1-2 years of security screening or related experience, ideally in airports.
- Demonstrated familiarity with operating screening equipment and understanding of security procedures is advantageous.
Physical and Sensory Requirements
- Visual acuity must be at least 20/60 in both eyes without corrective lenses, or 20/20 in one eye and 20/30 in the other when corrected. Adequate color vision is essential.
- Hearing loss should not exceed 30 dB in each ear for frequencies below 2000 Hz.
- Speech clarity sufficient for effective oral communication is required.
- Personnel must be free from significant movement impairments affecting crisis communication.
- Ability to detect odors is necessary.
- Candidates must maintain a high standard of civility, grooming, sobriety, and provide courteous interactions with the public.
