Role Overview
The Scheduler / Programmer position at BlueScope Distribution's Albury site focuses on managing the operations of a sophisticated plasma beamline used for processing structural steel components critical for construction projects like sheds, bridges, and platforms. The role combines hands-on understanding of machinery with planning and programming duties to ensure operational efficiency and safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze and interpret customer-provided drawings to prepare files suitable for plasma beamline processing.
- Collaborate with account managers to generate accurate business customer quotations.
- Develop daily and long-term machining schedules to optimize workflow.
- Prioritize orders and cluster similar materials to reduce downtime and maintain continuous production.
- Identify potential production challenges such as difficult cuts or insufficient parts before jobs reach the floor.
- Foster strong relationships with both internal teams and external customers to streamline operations.
- Lead and motivate a small, dedicated team to achieve high-quality outcomes.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate is inquisitive, organized, and practical with a strong desire to learn. Previous experience in areas such as machinery operation, production, fabrication, warehousing, drafting, or scheduling is beneficial but not mandatory. The role requires someone who can maintain composure amid changing plans, work collaboratively, and effectively switch between office, machine, and warehouse environments.
- Enjoy unraveling how systems function and asking insightful questions.
- Able to read and comprehend technical drawings, measurements, and plans.
- Adaptable with the ability to reprioritize tasks as circumstances evolve.
- Committed to keeping work processes efficient and assisting teammates as needed.
- Comfortable navigating between multiple work settings, including office, machinery, and warehouse floors.
- Motivated to expand knowledge in plasma machinery, CAD, steel fabrication, scheduling, and production planning.
