Overview

Our client, a reputable manufacturer and supplier in the fastener industry located in Birmingham, seeks a skilled Sales Estimator to join their expanding commercial team. The role is ideal for a candidate with significant experience in the fastener sector and the ability to independently prepare accurate costings and quotations. The successful applicant will be instrumental in supporting customers, delivering competitive pricing, and maintaining profit margins.

Key Responsibilities

  • Generate precise quotations and cost assessments for customer inquiries and projects.
  • Analyze customer drawings, specifications, and requirements to establish manufacturing and supply costs.
  • Independently calculate all costs involved, including materials, manufacturing, and operations.
  • Communicate with customers to clarify both technical and commercial needs.
  • Collaborate effectively with production, procurement, and sales teams to ensure accurate pricing and delivery schedules.
  • Source materials and subcontractor prices as necessary.
  • Negotiate supplier pricing to maximize profitability while remaining competitive.
  • Follow up on quotations to convert potential leads into confirmed orders.
  • Maintain comprehensive records of all quotations, pricing frameworks, and customer details.
  • Offer technical and commercial assistance to clients.
  • Keep abreast of market trends, raw material price fluctuations, and competitor movements within the industry.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives aimed at optimizing estimating procedures and operational efficiency.

Candidate Requirements

  • Demonstrable prior experience as a Sales Estimator in the fastener industry is mandatory.
  • Proven track record of independently costing and estimating jobs.
  • Deep understanding of fastener manufacturing processes, materials, and relevant quality standards.
  • Competency in interpreting customer drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
  • Strong commercial insight with an emphasis on profitability and margin management.
  • Experience in collaborating with customers, suppliers, and internal departments.
  • Exceptional numerical and analytical abilities coupled with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Proven capability to handle multiple quotations and meet tight deadlines.
  • Previous experience within a manufacturing or engineering setting is desirable but not essential.

Remuneration and Benefits

  • Competitive salary negotiable based on experience.
  • Working hours are 08:30-17:00 Monday to Thursday and 08:00-16:30 on Fridays.
  • Annual leave entitlement of 23 days plus Bank Holidays.
