Role Overview
Seeking an AI Safety Engineer to spearhead the design and execution of automated moderation and protection systems focused on guarding against abuse of free-tier offerings. This role demands full ownership from system architecture through deployment and monitoring, bridging ML research with robust, scalable safety product infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop scalable backend abuse detection infrastructure integrating AI/ML models in production.
- Design APIs, data pipelines, and service architecture for real-time and batch moderation workflows.
- Implement monitoring, alerting, observability with defined SLIs, SLOs, and performance metrics.
- Collaborate with ML engineers to transition research models into production-grade systems.
- Lead technical decision-making to shape safety system roadmap focusing on scalability and precision.
Qualifications
- Proven experience managing abuse detection, fraud prevention or fake account/bot mitigation at scale.
- Over 6 years in backend software engineering, delivering scalable production systems.
- Expertise in distributed systems, RESTful APIs, data pipelines and advanced Python development (including asynchronous frameworks).
- Strong skills in cloud infrastructure (AWS/GCP), Docker, Kubernetes and CI/CD implementation.
- Experienced in designing observable systems with monitoring tools like Prometheus and Grafana.
- Track record in taking systems from concept to impactful production deployment, preferably including AI/ML components.
Desirable Skills
- Background in Trust & Safety, content moderation or integrity engineering domains.
- Familiarity with MLOps practices such as model deployment, monitoring, and versioning.
- Experience with SQL, data analytics platforms, real-time streaming technologies (Kafka, Redis), and event-driven system architectures.
- Knowledge of React or contemporary frontend frameworks is a bonus.
