Overview

The food runner plays a crucial communication role between kitchen personnel and dining room staff. This position ensures hot, quality meals are efficiently delivered from the kitchen to the correct server or table, maintaining swift service flow and upholding guest satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

• Organize and prepare the station by setting out under-liners, doilies, gravy boats, ramekins, serving utensils, pizza stands, condiments, and sauces to enhance dish presentation.
• Maintain cleanliness of trays and ensure they are properly lined with fresh linen.
• Accurately assemble food orders by carefully reviewing order tickets and matching meals to the correct table requests.
• Verify special instructions indicated on orders, such as allergy considerations or sauce preferences, and ensure compliance.
• Appropriately garnish dishes, for example, placing lemons on fish plates as specified.
• Assist the expediter in cleaning plates before delivery to guests.
• Notify servers when their orders are ready for delivery or tables are about to be served.
• Communicate food orders to the kitchen line when expediter is unavailable.
• Follow chefs’ directions regarding food service and presentation.
• Help servers transport food to the designated stations and tables correctly.
• Serve food to guests from the proper side using open-armed service, never leaving food unattended.
• Ensure food is delivered directly to the intended guest without auctioning or confusion.
• Inform servers and bartenders about out-of-stock or limited menu items as advised by the chef.
• Keep the kitchen line stocked and clean before, during, and after service hours.
• Report significant issues proactively and assist with corrective measures.
• Foster respectful and cooperative relationships with colleagues.
• Support the bus and service staff when not actively running food.

Compensation

The hourly wage ranges from $10.70 up to $13.20 depending on experience and qualifications.
