About the Role
A reputable roadside assistance company based in Christchurch is seeking a skilled and customer-oriented Automotive Technician to join their local team. This hands-on, mobile position involves attending roadside vehicle breakdowns throughout Christchurch, offering immediate practical aid to drivers and enabling them to get back on the road safely. The role requires working independently on the road while having the backing of a broader service team.
Key Responsibilities
- Respond promptly to emergency roadside breakdowns across the Christchurch region
- Perform jump starts and battery replacements
- Assist with tire issues including flat tires and use of tire repair kits
- Provide vehicle unlocking and refuel assistance for out-of-fuel situations
- Conduct basic mechanical diagnostics and perform minor roadside repairs
- Maintain your service vehicle, tools, equipment, and inventory in a ready state for calls
- Document precise job and customer details
- Effectively prioritize urgent jobs while maintaining safety under pressure
- Deliver calm, professional service to customers in stressful conditions
Candidate Profile
- Strong background in automotive mechanics with practical skills
- Possession of Level 3 or 4 automotive qualifications preferred, or equivalent robust hands-on experience
- Competence in performing basic vehicle diagnostics and roadside repairs
- Holds a full, clean New Zealand driver's license
- Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively
- Willingness and availability to work a 4 days on, 4 days off roster from 8am to 7pm
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
- Dependable, safety-minded, and professional in conduct
Compensation and Benefits
- Hourly wage up to $37 depending on experience
- Opportunity for additional hours as needed
