About the Role
Hume City Council, a rapidly expanding and culturally rich community in Victoria, is seeking a dependable and detail-focused Road Maintenance Officer to join their Assets team in Coolaroo, Australia. This permanent, full-time position offers a salary of $71,490 per annum plus superannuation. The role involves ensuring the upkeep and repair of road surfaces to support safe and effective transport infrastructure within the community.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspect roadways, drainage, and related infrastructure to determine maintenance needs.
- Execute routine repair works like patching, sealing, and resurfacing roads.
- Operate and maintain heavy equipment, such as compactors, pavers, and graders, adhering to safety standards.
- Respond swiftly to reports of road damage and emergencies.
- Coordinate with traffic management teams to maintain public safety during maintenance tasks.
- Keep detailed records of maintenance activities, equipment utilization, and tasks completed.
- Follow all safety guidelines and consistently use personal protective equipment.
- Maintain clear communication with team members and supervisors about project status and challenges.
- Troubleshoot and repair maintenance machinery as needed.
- Ensure tools and materials are stored orderly and work areas are clean.
Required Skills and Experience
- Two to three years’ experience in road maintenance, construction, or other similar fieldwork.
- Skilled in operating heavy machinery and maintenance tools.
- Thorough knowledge of road safety rules and traffic management procedures.
- Excellent organizational and time management capabilities.
- Physically fit with the ability to endure manual labor in different weather conditions.
- Possession of a valid Australian driver’s license.
- Strong team collaboration skills.
- Effective problem identification and resolution aptitude.
- Attention to detail and clear communication skills.
Mandatory Certifications and Qualifications
- Heavy vehicle license (HR or HC class).
- First Aid certification.
- Certification in traffic management.
- Experience using road asset management systems.
- Familiarity with local road infrastructure standards and maintenance scheduling.
- Prior experience working with local government or transportation agencies.
