Overview
Hume City Council, among Australia's rapidly expanding and culturally rich municipalities, invites applications for the role of Street Sweeper Operator in Coolaroo, Victoria. Join the Sustainability, Climate & Waste team and play a key role in maintaining the cleanliness and upkeep of the municipal district's infrastructure assets.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform pre-start inspections and routine maintenance on mechanical road sweeping vehicles daily according to established checklists and maintenance schedules.
- Ensure thorough cleaning of the vehicle after each shift, inspecting and reporting any needed repairs or maintenance to the workshop.
- Maintain streets, parking lots, commercial and industrial areas, shopping precincts, and public spaces at a high standard using mechanical road sweepers.
- Execute road sweeping duties in line with Council’s work programs and schedules developed by the relevant work groups.
- Collect and dispose of waste and sweepings in compliance with Council's safety policies and procedures.
- Remove debris, litter, vegetation, and weeds from roads and surfaces as required or directed.
- Participate actively in Continuous Improvement meetings to enhance operational efficiency and service quality.
- Report daily any hazards, non-conformances, or operational issues affecting the service.
Skills and Experience Required
- Familiarity with Council operations focusing on cleansing activities.
- Proven capability to operate mechanical road sweepers.
- Holding Scarab or MacDonald Johnston Road and Footpath Sweeper Certificates of Competence is beneficial.
- Basic understanding of the Litter Act 1987.
- Knowledge of Council’s waste and cleansing procedures, policies, and programs.
- Competence in performing basic vehicle, plant, and equipment repairs and maintenance.
- Good verbal and written communication skills to interact courteously with the public and resolve minor issues effectively.
- A clear understanding of Occupational Health and Safety standards.
Mandatory Qualifications
- Current heavy truck licence.
- Valid driver's licence.
