About Tower Research Capital

Established in 1998, Tower Research Capital is a premier quantitative trading firm recognized for its innovative high-performance platform and autonomous trading teams. With over 25 years of experience, Tower is distinguished by its capability to uncover unique trading opportunities across markets worldwide.

Our firm attracts some of the best talent in systematic trading and engineering. Portfolio managers are empowered to independently build their teams and strategies while benefiting from the scale and resources of a global organization. Engineers at Tower excel by developing cutting-edge electronic trading infrastructure focused on low-latency programming, hardware acceleration including FPGA technology, and machine learning. Our continuous investments in engineering talent and advanced technology ensure our platform’s superior functionality, scalability, and performance.

The Business Support teams at Tower play a vital role in the firm’s success by managing and sustaining the infrastructure that supports market access, data, computing resources, compliance, risk management, and a wide range of business services—enabling trading and engineering functions to excel.

Role Responsibilities

  • Oversee risk aspects related to the firm’s trading activities, concentrating primarily on electronic trading and market risk.
  • Support the Regional Head of Risk and broader risk team by supervising daily trading operations to ensure proper risk management, prompt identification, escalation, and resolution of issues.
  • Monitor electronic trading and market risks in real time across trading strategies, escalating and assisting in resolving risk incidents efficiently.
  • Develop, maintain, and assess risk limit frameworks as well as conduct stress tests and scenario analyses, including evaluations of market disruptions and shifts in asset correlations.
  • Collaborate closely with Portfolio Managers, Traders, Engineering, Business Management, and Operations to address and solve trading risk matters effectively.
  • Ensure robust risk governance covering trade lifecycle events, new projects, and initiatives by identifying, quantifying, escalating, and mitigating material risks.
  • Work alongside Risk Management and Risk Technology teams to enhance controls related to electronic trading risks, including improving monitoring, alerting systems, and automation of risk controls.
  • Perform ad hoc risk assessments, stress testing, margin analysis, and regular back-testing to support risk limit governance, escalation procedures, and presentations to senior risk committees.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Possess a strong academic foundation with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics, engineering, computer science, physics, or a related quantitative field. A master’s degree in a quantitative discipline is highly desirable.
  • Have 2 to 5 years experience in electronic trading risk within sell-side, buy-side, proprietary trading, or digital asset trading environments.
  • Demonstrate sound risk judgment on complex portfolios and the ability to critically and constructively challenge trading assumptions.
  • Experience working collaboratively across trading, business management, compliance, and technology teams in highly automated electronic trading settings.
  • Proficient in Python and SQL/database querying with strong analytical, problem-solving, and keen attention to detail abilities.
  • A motivated learner with a proactive approach to questioning current practices and driving improvements.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
