This role demands proactive development of loss-prevention programs, comprehensive analysis of shrinkage and incident data, recognition of vulnerabilities, overseeing investigations, reinforcing store controls, allocating security resources, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to mitigate financial and operational losses while preserving a positive experience for customers and employees.
Key Duties

- Detect patterns and root causes of losses both internal and external across stores, regions, products, processes, and sales channels.
- Implement risk-centered loss-prevention programs tailored for stores, distribution centers, warehouses, offices, and related retail facilities.
- Conduct frequent store and operational risk evaluations to identify weak points and gaps in control measures.
- Maintain standards for loss prevention procedures including opening, closing, cash handling, receiving, storage, merchandising, transfers, returns, refunds, and inventory management.
- Assess store layouts, merchandise placements, access points, controls for high-value products, and security tactics.
- Set up controls for products at high risk, valuable merchandise, and sensitive inventory items.
- Track inventory shrinkage and thoroughly examine major discrepancies, unexplained losses, and recurring variances.
- Collaborate with Inventory and Supply Chain teams to pinpoint loss risks throughout the processes of receiving, storage, transportation, transfer, and delivery.
- Lead investigations into suspected shoplifting, employee theft, organized retail crime, fraud, collusion, refund abuse, discount misuse, and other loss incidents.
- Guide or support internal and external investigations following company policies and legal requirements.
- Establish procedures for investigations including evidence collection, documentation, interviews, case handling, escalation, and case resolution.
- Keep investigation records confidential and manage sensitive information appropriately.
- Work alongside Human Resources and Legal teams for employee-related inquiry and disciplinary processes.
- Engage with law enforcement and appropriate authorities as legally necessary.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with external security vendors, investigation experts, technology suppliers, and loss-prevention partners.
- Oversee security guard services, monitoring agencies, investigation firms, and other external security resources.
- Define expected service levels, operational standards, reporting needs, and performance indicators for security contractors.
- Supervise vendor performance, staffing adequacy, incident responsiveness, patrol quality, and contractual compliance.
- Assess and integrate CCTV, video analytics, electronic article surveillance, access control, alarms, body-worn cameras, and supplementary security technologies as apt.
- Work with Technology and IT teams on security system integration, uptime, access regulation, data retention policies, and technical assistance.
- Examine CCTV footage and security data during investigations and risk evaluations as authorized.
- Develop proactive monitoring and surveillance strategies based on pinpointed loss risks.
- Implement control measures for point-of-sale systems, refunds, voids, discounts, price overrides, gift cards, cash transactions, and other vulnerable retail operations.
- Analyze transaction and POS data to detect irregular patterns, suspicious conduct, and potential fraud.
- Coordinate with Finance and Internal Audit to bolster financial and operational controls.
- Design programs that prevent payment fraud, refund abuse, loyalty program exploitation, gift-card scams, promotion misconduct, and related threats.
- Watch and address online and omnichannel loss risks including e-commerce fraud, click-and-collect issues, returns, delivery challenges, account exploitation, and fulfillment losses.
- Collaborate with e-commerce, Customer Experience, Digital, and Fulfillment teams to lessen omnichannel loss exposure.
