About the Role
Sheridans Cheesemongers is seeking two passionate Retail Cheesemongers to join our team at the cheese wall located in Dunnes Stores, Leopardstown Shopping Centre, Dublin. This opportunity involves covering a total of 48 working hours weekly, split flexibly between two individuals. The role is perfect for those enthusiastic about cheese, great food, and engaging with customers.
Work Schedule
The workweek runs from Sunday through Saturday, featuring these specific shifts at Leopardstown:
- Sunday: 12:00pm to 6:00pm
- Monday: 1:00pm to 6:00pm
- Tuesday: 1:00pm to 6:00pm
- Wednesday: 1:00pm to 6:00pm
- Thursday: 2:00pm to 6:00pm
- Friday: 11:00am to 6:00pm
- Saturday: 11:00am to 7:00pm
These shifts total 40 hours weekly at Leopardstown, with an additional 8-hour shift at our Cornelscourt location. The division of hours between candidates will be mutually agreed upon based on availability and business requirements, with weekend availability being essential—especially Sundays and Saturdays. Occasionally, candidates may be asked to provide extra coverage at either site.
Key Responsibilities
- Receiving deliveries and storing inventory correctly
- Maintaining accurate stock levels and regular stock rotation
- Ensuring proper care and handling of cheeses and related products for optimal quality
- Merchandising to keep cheese displays attractive and well-stocked
- Preparing cheeses for sale and maintaining signage and displays throughout the day
- Offering tasting experiences and educating customers about flavors, textures, origins, and pairings
- Delivering outstanding, friendly customer service with knowledgeable support
- Learning and promoting Irish and European farmhouse and artisan cheeses
- Helping reduce waste by ensuring products are sold within their best-before dates
- Upholding food safety standards, including HACCP and allergen controls
- Keeping counters, refrigerators, storage, and surrounding retail spaces clean and orderly
- Assisting with stocktakes and maintaining daily records
- Supporting seasonal displays, hampers, and other retail events
- Reporting any stock, product, or customer issues to supervisors
- Providing occasional shift coverage at the Cornelscourt branch
Candidate Profile
- Deep enthusiasm for food and eagerness to expand knowledge about cheese
- Outgoing, friendly personality comfortable engaging with customers
- Interest in artisan Irish and European food producers and their traditions
- Excellent listening skills and clear communication
- Well-organized and calm under pressure
- Self-driven and capable of working independently
- Hands-on approach to duties from deliveries to merchandising and customer interactions
- Attention to detail, especially concerning stock rotation, product care, and visual presentation
- Dedicated to delivering exceptional customer service
- Availability for required shifts including weekends
Previous experience in retail, deli, or food service and any HACCP or food safety background is advantageous but not mandatory as training will be provided.
