Role Overview

The Reserving Actuary plays a vital role on the Non-Life Reserving Operations team, responsible for executing and enhancing reserving procedures for the global non-life insurance business. This position blends core actuarial reserving duties with a strong emphasis on operational efficiency, data handling, platform oversight, and automation of processes. The successful candidate will work on reserving analysis, quarterly closing tasks, data checks, and advancement of analytical tools and workflows that support reserving activities.

This role uniquely integrates actuarial science, data management, and technology to modernize reserving operations and boost productivity through innovative automation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in performing the quarterly reserving cycle and comprehensive Deep Dive reviews.
  • Support reserving analyses, prepare data, perform reconciliations, and generate reports.
  • Help produce and validate critical reserving figures such as IBNR, ULAE, and DCBE.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to identify and resolve reserving data and reporting challenges.
  • Create and maintain automation solutions that enhance reserving process efficiency.
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of the Non-Life Reserving Platform and related analytical tools.
  • Participate in the testing, rollout, and release of new system functionalities.
  • Document technical processes, scripts, and control measures thoroughly.
  • Lead data validation and quality assurance initiatives.
  • Support the establishment and monitoring of operational controls for reserving outputs.
  • Investigate and rectify data quality concerns to ensure accuracy and traceability in reserving results.
  • Utilize Python for developing and optimizing reserving tools, analyses, and reporting.
  • Engage in data transformation, automation workflows, and analytics enhancements.
  • Facilitate integration between actuarial systems, databases, and reporting platforms.
  • Evaluate and recommend new technological tools to improve workflow effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Reserving, Finance, Technology, Data, and Operations.
  • Support business users by clarifying reserving data and processes.
  • Contribute to cross-department projects aimed at improving processes.
  • Effectively communicate analytical results and insights to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Qualifications and Skills

Technical Skills (Required):

  • Proficient Python programming capabilities.
  • Experience handling large and complex datasets.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to clearly explain technical concepts to diverse audiences.

Preferred Skills:

  • Familiarity with ResQ reserving software and SQL databases.
  • Experience working with cloud-based data platforms.
  • Use of version control systems such as Git.
  • Knowledge of Power BI or similar business intelligence tools.
  • Experience with additional programming languages including R, VBA, C#, or Java.

  • Background working in data analysis, reporting, or related environments.
  • Exposure to process automation and technical development is highly beneficial.

Education and Professional Credentials

  • Degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, Computer Science, or a related quantitative discipline.
  • Qualified Actuary status or active progress towards a recognized actuarial qualification.
