Role Overview

As a Research Scientist focused on Artificial Intelligence, you will pioneer novel techniques that enhance the accuracy, reliability, and autonomy of our AI systems beyond existing solutions. This involves tackling challenging problems such as building dependable agents that navigate unfamiliar government websites, developing models capable of interpreting imperfect real-world documents, and designing AI systems proficient in self-awareness about their uncertainties.

You will establish the research roadmap, conduct meticulous experiments, and collaborate closely with Research Engineers to convert innovative breakthroughs into measurable improvements in visa approval rates, processing times, and application costs.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and define research efforts on agentic AI challenges, focusing on LLM-based agents that plan, utilize tools, take actions, and manage errors during complex multi-step tasks.
• Innovate techniques for multimodal understanding and reasoning, enabling models to extract, validate, and reason with noisy, diverse input data spanning multiple formats and languages.
• Conduct post-training research such as fine-tuning, preference optimization, and reinforcement learning to advance model capabilities beyond general-purpose models.
• Investigate methods for calibration, uncertainty quantification, and self-verification, enabling AI to decide when to operate autonomously or involve human oversight.
• Create evaluative benchmarks, build synthetic data generation strategies, and design tests that realistically assess model robustness, quality, and identify failure patterns.
• Work closely with research engineers to transition prototypes into production-ready solutions and disseminate findings internally and through academic publications when relevant.

Candidate Profile

• Possess a PhD or MS in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or related discipline, or possess equivalent research experience.
• Have accumulated over three years of applied or academic research experience in machine learning, natural language processing, or computer vision.
• Demonstrate a history of impactful research contributions evidenced by publications at premier conferences (NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, ACL, EMNLP, CVPR), influential open-source initiatives, or measurable production improvements.
• Have substantial hands-on expertise with large language models, including advanced techniques beyond simple prompting like fine-tuning, RLHF/DPO, evaluation planning, and profound understanding of model behavior.
• Be proficient in Python and PyTorch, capable of independently managing full experimental pipelines from data preparation to model training and detailed analysis.
• Exhibit rigorous scientific thinking focused on practical impact — formulating precise questions, designing clear experiments, avoiding biases, and prioritizing real-world outcomes.
