About ALS and the Role
At ALS, we empower innovation and aspire to create a healthier future by leveraging scientific analysis and data insights on a global scale. We are expanding our Commercial Research and Development team at the Hamilton site, inviting an experienced R&D Scientist to join and support diverse markets including honey, dairy, environmental, food production, nutraceuticals, and research sectors for clients in New Zealand, Australia, and internationally.
Key Responsibilities
- Engage with clients to comprehend their challenges and requirements.
- Identify potential analytical techniques and prepare quotations accordingly.
- Develop and validate analytical methods using advanced instrumentation such as LC-MS/MS, LC-HRMS, HPLC, IC, and GCMS to meet stringent standards.
- Perform analysis on a wide variety of samples, collaborating with skilled technicians, and create detailed reports suitable for client and regulatory needs.
Candidate Profile
- Experienced scientist aligned with ALS values — technical excellence, customer focus, integrity, curiosity, resilience, and collaboration.
- Holder of a postgraduate degree or equivalent experience in relevant life sciences.
- Minimum of five years in a commercial analytical testing lab or related scientific setting, demonstrating innovation, creativity, and efficiency.
- Proficient in applying scientific methods to fulfill client requirements in a quality-controlled environment.
- Ability to communicate project outcomes effectively to varied audiences.
- Skilled with modern analytical chemistry instrumentation, specifically chromatography and mass spectrometry systems.
- Competent computer user with experience in spreadsheets, word processing, laboratory information management systems (LIMS), and instrument software.
- Strong interpersonal and communication abilities valued by team members and colleagues.
- Self-driven and capable of managing complete project cycles independently while knowing when to seek assistance to ensure high-quality results.
- Commercially astute with a customer-oriented mindset, appreciating the necessity of delivering solid results and timely updates regarding challenges or delays.
- Thrives in high-pressure environments and manages concurrent projects with competing demands efficiently.
