Job Overview

The Repair Machine Champion (RMC) is tasked with managing and coordinating machine shop repairs for components that are damaged, nonconforming, or require rework. This role provides comprehensive responsibility spanning technical evaluation, supplier interaction, inspection processes, documentation, and ensuring delivery meets safety, compliance, and timing standards. The goal is to enhance repair turnaround times, reduce reliance on OEMs, and enable cost-effective asset recovery to support operational continuity and savings.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee and direct the entire repair process for damaged or nonconforming components, guaranteeing alignment with operational standards.
• Analyze engineering drawings, technical specifications, component conditions, and past repair records to define repair scope including methods, limitations, and acceptance criteria.
• Serve as the main point of contact with machine shop vendors for clarifying requirements, priorities, inspections, and delivery schedules.
• Collaborate with R&M, Engineering, Quality Control, Operations, and Supply Chain teams to synchronize repair execution, documentation, logistics, and system updates.
• Ensure repaired parts undergo inspections validating compliance with dimensional, visual, and non-destructive examination requirements.
• Maintain repair tracking systems, monitor progress, identify any risks or delays, and provide updates to stakeholders and company leadership.
• Facilitate logistics for transporting tools, parts, and repaired items to meet operational demands.
• Analyze failure trends, assess supplier performance, and identify opportunities to improve quality, repair cycle times, and cost efficiency.
• Coordinate with global partners to supply accurate repair data, cost impacts, and ensure alignment with the Global Repair Catalog.
• Work alongside other Repair Machine Champions to exchange best practices and promote development of repair capabilities.

Required Skills and Expertise

• Strong technical aptitude in evaluating repairs, defining repair scopes, and familiarity with machine shop repair techniques.
• Understanding of machining processes such as turning, grinding, milling, welding, cladding, and surface restoration.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, dimensional tolerances, material specifications, and quality acceptance standards.
• Familiarity with quality control system, quality assurance, non-conformance report (NCR) management, inspection planning, and release protocols.
• Experience managing suppliers, including negotiation, follow-up, and cross-functional coordination.
• Meticulous attention to quality compliance, accurate documentation, and traceability.
• Capability to manage multiple tasks efficiently in a dynamic environment with clear ownership and escalation procedures.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and timely decision-making skills with appropriate risk escalation.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to interact with stakeholders at various organizational levels.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and familiarity with ERP systems, NCR handling, and repair tracking software.

Qualifications and Experience

• A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent field.
• Five to eight years of professional experience in repair management, manufacturing, machine shop operations, R&M, quality control, or technical support related to drilling tools or oilfield equipment.
• Preferred background includes drilling services, repair and maintenance, quality assurance, manufacturing, or managing supplier repairs.
• Knowledge of inspection techniques including dimensional, visual, and non-destructive evaluations alongside repair validation procedures.
• Experience in supplier qualification, monitoring performance, conducting audits, and fostering repair capability development is advantageous.
• Awareness of relevant ISO, API, engineering, quality, and health, safety, and environment (HSE) standards applicable to repair and manufacturing operations.
