About the Role
Join HMRC Valuation Office (VO), the public sector's specialist in property valuation, recently integrated into HMRC. This role centers on delivering a variety of property services important for the collection of over £60 billion in revenue that benefits communities across England and Wales.
As a Rent Officer, you'll visit letting agents and landlords regularly to gather rental data, supporting functions such as Fair Rent registrations, rental valuations for Housing Benefit, and market research. You will report to a Hub Manager and work collaboratively with colleagues on local and national scales.
Post-training, you will enjoy autonomy over your schedule, balancing onsite property inspections and home-working, embracing a broad geographical remit depending on location.
Key Duties
- Visit letting agents and landlords to collect and present the importance of rental information.
- Inspect properties for Housing Benefit and Fair Rent Act assessments.
- Organize and document data collection activities using market feedback.
- Follow Data Protection laws concerning the handling of information, resolving any concerns raised by agents or landlords.
- Participate in creating Local Housing Allowance rates by applying relevant guidelines and legislation.
- Perform communication tasks via phone, email, and written correspondence regarding housing-related enquiries.
- Undertake quality assurance for Office of National Statistics data submissions, adhering to deadlines.
- Input rental data into VO systems accurately.
- Determine Housing Benefit valuations in line with legal regulations.
- Register Fair Rents according to the Rent Act 1977.
Candidate Profile
You should be eager to expand your knowledge of property and valuation, confident in decision-making, and capable of independently managing a flexible workload efficiently. Excellent interpersonal skills and customer service orientation are essential.
Possession of a full UK driving licence is mandatory, along with willingness to travel extensively, especially outside London. Candidates with disabilities who do not hold a driving licence are encouraged to discuss their situation prior to application.
