Position Overview
The Regional Economic Development Specialist serves as a key liaison between the community, governmental bodies, small enterprises, and industry sectors to promote sustainable economic advancement and regional prosperity. This role facilitates business-friendly approaches within the Council, attracting investment and enhancing local business sustainability. Special focus areas include workforce development, nurturing future-oriented organizations, and enabling access to vital resources such as key worker accommodation, land, and housing.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify and facilitate significant investment opportunities, development projects, and initiatives that promote economic growth.
- Establish and maintain robust partnerships with businesses, industries, government agencies, neighboring councils, and regional stakeholders.
- Support efforts aimed at retaining, expanding, and diversifying local businesses.
- Promote the Maranoa region as an attractive destination for business, investment, and population expansion.
- Identify and pursue funding and grants from government and private sectors.
- Conduct research and analysis regarding economic trends, opportunities, and challenges.
- Develop business concierge programs and champion the Small Business Friendly initiative.
- Represent the region at industry events, forums, and advocacy platforms.
- Host prospective investors and coordinate connections between them, the Council, and the local business community.
- Assist in strategic planning involving land availability and infrastructure enhancement.
- Explore ways to leverage Council-owned assets like Roma Saleyards, Roma Airport, sporting venues, and industrial areas to aid regional development.
- Collaborate with key industries and partners to enhance workforce capability and bolster small business success.
- Contribute actively to Council’s growth strategies, plans, policies, reports, and various economic initiatives.
- Support programmes such as the Maranoa Business Awards and Business Excellence Program.
- Manage activities within approved budget parameters, ensuring efficient and responsible use of public funds.
- Drive continuous improvement via innovative and solution-oriented strategies.
