Job description
About the Role
We are seeking a motivated individual passionate about preserving Heritage and Visitor assets and enhancing visitor experiences. This full-time, fixed-term position runs from November until the end of May 2027 and is located in our Reefton base office. As a Ranger, you will provide essential maintenance across multiple visitor and heritage assets, contributing to conservation goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain both front-country and backcountry tracks ensuring safe and accessible trails.
- Upkeep of visitor spaces such as campgrounds and recreational facilities.
- Repair and maintain structures including huts, bridges, and other estate buildings.
- Assist in basic construction and building activities as needed.
- Collaborate with biodiversity, community, and broader teams when necessary.
Work Environment
You will work outdoors in a physically active role, joining a positive and enthusiastic team dedicated to conservation in the Reefton area. The Mawhera/Greymouth Heritage and Visitor Team includes 10 full-time staff with 3 based around Reefton, plus seasonal fixed-term workers, while the Paparoa Team consists of additional full-time and seasonal staff. Both teams frequently collaborate on diverse projects and foster a supportive, growth-oriented culture.
Desired Skills and Experience
- A proactive, positive attitude along with strong communication skills.
- Enjoyment of working outdoors and engaging in hands-on tasks.
- Ability to operate both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Possession of a full or restricted Class 1 Driver Licence.
- Good physical fitness to meet the demands of the role.
Compensation and Eligibility
The salary offered ranges from $61,189 to $67,446 annually, depending on skills and experience. Applicants must hold a valid New Zealand work visa valid through the employment period.
