Range Operator

About the Role

Join Ventia as a Range Operator at the Puckapunyal Defence Base, where you will actively support Defence training exercises within the Puckapunyal Range Training Areas and other designated range environments. This position involves hands-on participation in a variety of operational tasks including range setup and maintenance, target systems operation, land and environmental management, and bushfire response efforts.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare training ranges for Defence exercises involving live-fire drills
• Operate and upkeep electronic target systems and range-related equipment
• Assist Defence personnel during training events to ensure smooth operations
• Adhere to Range Standing Orders and strict site safety protocols
• Perform regular inspections of range and surrounding areas
• Manufacture, repair, and maintain target materials
• Conduct general maintenance tasks and manage land resources responsibly
• Maintain cleanliness and housekeeping standards across the training facilities
• Participate in environmental and vegetation control programs
• Engage in bushfire firefighting activities within the scope of qualifications and crew needs
• Operate necessary vehicles, machinery, and equipment for range activities

Candidate Profile

This role suits individuals who are dependable, safety-conscious, and appreciate an active, outdoor working environment. Critical requirements include a current manual driver’s licence and capabilities in map reading and navigating remote areas. Basic computer proficiency and a dedication to teamwork and safety are essential.

Preferred Skills and Qualifications

• Experience with CFA, emergency services, or bushfire firefighting operations
• Proficiency in operating communication devices, power tools, and chainsaws
