Job description
About PsiQuantum
PsiQuantum aims to create the first practical quantum computers capable of solving problems beyond the reach of existing supercomputers and AI. Founded in 2016, our focus is on building million-qubit, fault-tolerant machines using silicon photonics technology, leveraging established semiconductor manufacturing processes with partners like GlobalFoundries. Photonics provides advantages such as immunity to heat and electromagnetic interference and integration with current cooling and fiber optic infrastructure.
In 2024, we announced government-supported projects to develop utility-scale quantum computers in Brisbane, Australia, and Chicago, USA, highlighting the strategic importance and economic potential of quantum computing.
Our teams also develop software and algorithms to make these quantum systems commercially valuable, collaborating with major Fortune 500 clients across sectors including defense, automotive, pharmaceuticals, and chemicals.
Job Summary
The Quantum Applications Architect role is embedded within the algorithms team, focusing on designing, benchmarking, and implementing quantum algorithms targeted at fault-tolerant quantum computers. This role involves close coordination with the quantum industry applications team and the compilation/software groups to align algorithm capabilities with hardware design, enabling practical quantum applications and discovery of innovative algorithmic approaches.
Key Responsibilities
- Investigate and develop quantum algorithm techniques specifically for fault-tolerant quantum hardware.
- Participate in the design, implementation, and evaluation of quantum applications and necessary tooling.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to validate and refine quantum algorithms across domains such as life sciences and sustainability.
- Perform simulations and resource analyses to understand quantum algorithm demands on photonic quantum computing platforms.
- Work jointly with the architecture group to optimize algorithms alongside hardware design.
Qualifications and Experience
- Advanced degree in Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or related fields (MSc, PhD, or equivalent).
- Extensive research background in quantum algorithms, compilation, computational complexity, or applications.
- Preferred experience with quantum algorithms or compilation in fault-tolerant gate regimes.
- Highly motivated and results-focused, accustomed to fast-paced, high-output environments.
- Analytical problem-solver with proficient teamwork skills across departments, locations, and time zones.
- Self-directed with the ability to thrive in a dynamic start-up setting.
