Job description

Overview

Join the Thermo Fisher Scientific's Auckland Penrose site, a leader in manufacturing sera, cell culture media, and freeze-dried powder products globally known under the Gibco brand. Become a key player in supporting life-saving drug and vaccine development by ensuring product quality through rigorous testing and analysis.

This role adheres to strict environmental standards including Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), cleanroom protocols (restrictions on personal products like hair products, jewelry, makeup, nail polish, perfume, piercings, facial hair), and use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, gowns, gloves, and lab coats. The position follows a standard Monday-to-Friday work schedule with core hours from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm preferably starting earlier.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct quality control analyses accurately following standard operating procedures; document observations and interpret results diligently.
  • Maintain and analyze quality control data using both paper and electronic records for trending purposes.
  • Manage inventory including ordering and maintaining stock of supplies and ensuring optimal storage conditions for samples and chemicals.
  • Handle quality documentation by drafting, reviewing, and issuing SOPs and standard forms.
  • Collaborate effectively across departments and communicate with internal customers to ensure quality standards.
  • Participate in investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective/preventive actions (CAPA).
  • Engage in training sessions and continuous improvement projects.
  • Perform microbiological, biochemical, and other standard laboratory tests.
  • Contribute actively to investigations of deviations or out-of-specification results related to quality control.
  • Support quality and process improvement initiatives through innovative ideas.
  • Comply strictly with safety protocols including the use of PPE and proactive hazard identification and reporting of accidents or near misses.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Tertiary qualification in a Science discipline, with a bachelor's degree preferred.
  • 1 to 3 years of experience in a laboratory or manufacturing environment is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with quality control laboratory methods, quality assurance practices, and standards such as ISO 9001 and cGMP regulations.
  • Proficiency in computer applications including word processing, spreadsheets, and database software.
