Job description

Job Purpose

This position aims to support the affiliate’s production and financial goals by ensuring availability, proper functioning, and compliance of all Drilling & Wells and third-party equipment and materials for operations. It includes managing inspection, assembly, and testing processes within the Nigerian affiliate's scope, while coordinating effectively with departments such as Technical Logistics and Procurement.

Scope and Environment

The role demands adherence to company policies, standards, codes of conduct, and HSE requirements, collaborating with teams from HSE, GSR, FOPS, Asset Integrity, HQ, C&P, and Techlog. The incumbent supports senior management and performance teams across diverse operational setups, including floater and non-floater activities in onshore, classic offshore, and deepwater environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Organize and coordinate QA/QC activities, providing regular daily and weekly HSE and operational reports to leadership.
  • Liaise with Drilling & Wells teams, Techlog, contractors, and related entities to optimize equipment management and quality processes.
  • Demonstrate strong planning and time management capabilities.
  • Collaborate with engineers and supervisors, sharing expertise, reviewing documentation, and offering constructive feedback.
  • Mentor junior engineers and supervisors by sharing knowledge and best practices.
  • Maintain effective communication with company logistics bases and contractor or third-party sites to facilitate efficient equipment and materials handling.
  • Coordinate with mobilization teams to support QA/QC inspection, validation, issuance, and receipt of equipment and materials.
  • Apply comprehensive understanding of drilling and well functions and equipment, such as Drilling, Completions, Intervention, Well Integrity, and Fluids.
  • Utilize in-depth QA/QC and inspection technologies and techniques, including MPI, DPT, UST, and EC.
  • Interpret and apply inspection standards and codes (API, ASTM, ASNT) to establish rejection criteria post-inspection.
  • Oversee preparation, testing, and loadout of equipment and materials stored onsite for drilling, completion, and intervention operations.
  • Develop and enforce QA/QC (API Q2) plans and procedures consistent with company and industry standards for managing equipment at company and third-party locations before issuance and after operations.
  • Participate in knowledge sharing through company professional experience exchanges.
  • Assist in incident investigations and troubleshooting related to equipment before and after use at company and third-party sites.

Work Context

  • Primary job location: Port Harcourt, with visits to Onne, OML 58 (Obite/Obagi), and contractor or third-party sites to oversee stock and issued equipment.
  • Scope covers a diverse range of equipment relating to drilling, completion, fluids, intervention, and well integrity across multiple operational platforms and terrains.
  • Work schedule includes rotation or resident format, approximately 11-hour days, seven days per week, on 28-day cycles.
  • Work environments include both offshore and onshore settings, interacting with diverse internal operational entities and contractors.

Accountabilities

  • Enforce adherence to safety protocols and reference frameworks.
  • Adapt and implement company QA/QC standards across company assets, contractors, and third parties.
  • Monitor and report QA/QC and inspection key performance indicators for Drilling & Wells teams and contractors.
  • Maintain collaborative relationships with other departments to optimize inspection and mobilization activities.
  • Operate independently with minimal supervision, meet deadlines, and communicate effectively at all organizational levels.
  • Ensure timely and compliant delivery of equipment supporting drilling and well activities.

HSE Objectives

  • Exemplify commitment to company and statutory HSE policies and code of conduct, ensuring team and contractor compliance.
  • Drive participation in safety initiatives and audits to maintain contractor compliance.
  • Ensure all supervised personnel are trained on their HSE responsibilities with ongoing oversight.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Formal technical education (Technician level).
  • At least 10 years of relevant technical experience in onshore and offshore drilling or well engineering roles.
  • Previous experience preferred in QA/QC inspection, workshop management, materials management and logistics, or technical inspection and audit roles.
  • Strong knowledge of drilling and completion engineering, well interventions, and well integrity.
  • Familiarity with oil and gas materials, QA/QC and inspection standards, stock management, and logistics.
  • Membership in relevant inspection or technical audit organizations is advantageous.
  • Good understanding of relevant Nigerian and international oil and gas regulatory bodies and agencies.
