About Protection Automation and Control Services (PACS)
PACS is a Qatar-based firm specializing in power system protection and control with a technical team boasting decades of expertise in transmission, distribution, substation automation, and fault analysis. The company's operations cover EHV, HV, MV, and LV electrical networks, focusing on maintenance, pre-commissioning, and fault rectification. PACS offers services such as relay setting, load flow and short circuit studies, system troubleshooting, and remedial solutions to commercial and industrial clients. Their portfolio includes significant projects for Qatar Foundation, FIFA stadiums, prominent hotels, universities, medical centers, and major infrastructure ventures in Qatar.
Role Overview
The Protection Engineer will be stationed full-time on-site in Doha, responsible for designing, evaluating, and deploying protective schemes across various voltage levels (EHV, HV, MV, LV). Core tasks include relay settings and coordination studies, protection system maintenance, conducting pre-commissioning and thorough testing phases, fault diagnostics, and generating detailed technical documentation. The engineer will also support substation electrical systems, troubleshoot protection-related equipment issues, and engage with project stakeholders to ensure secure, compliant network operations. Site inspections and commissioning duties form integral parts of the position.
Qualifications and Skills Required
- At least five years of pertinent experience in power system protection engineering.
- Comprehensive understanding of protection principles, fault analysis, and relay coordination for all voltage levels.
- Hands-on experience with protection relay configuration, testing, including pre-commissioning and end-to-end tests.
- Proficiency in substation industrial electrical system control and monitoring.
- Knowledge of conducting load flow studies, short circuit analysis, and assessing power quality.
- Experience troubleshooting substation protection systems and equipment.
- Degree in Electrical Engineering; additional advanced certifications in power system protection are advantageous.
- Background from utility, industrial, or consultancy sectors, preferably with exposure in Middle East power systems.
- Strong analytical abilities, problem-solving techniques, and expertise in technical report composition.
- Commitment to safety practices, precision, and effective communication with multidisciplinary teams and clients.
