Role Overview
The position of Property Underwriter is a full-time, on-site role located in Doha, Qatar. The person in this role is responsible for evaluating and underwriting property insurance risks by carefully reviewing proposals and determining suitable coverage terms and prices that comply with company guidelines and Sharia law. Regular duties include analyzing risk-related data, creating underwriting reports, coordinating with brokers and internal teams, and ensuring accurate record-keeping. The underwriter also aids the claims department by offering underwriting expertise, monitors the portfolio's performance, and helps improve underwriting standards and insurance product offerings.
Qualifications and Skills Required
- Strong analytical capability to assess risk data, understand property exposure, and make justified underwriting decisions.
- Effective communication skills to liaise with clients, brokers, and internal teams and clearly communicate underwriting advice.
- Sound knowledge of insurance and underwriting practices, including familiarity with property insurance products, policy terms, and risk evaluation methods.
- Understanding of property claims workflow to support claim resolution through collaboration with claims personnel.
- A bachelor's degree in finance, business, insurance, or similar fields; holding professional insurance certifications is an asset.
- Previous experience in property underwriting, ideally in Islamic or regional insurance markets, is highly valuable.
- Proficient in MS Office and underwriting software, with keen attention to detail and strong organizational abilities.
- Capacity to work effectively in a diverse, multicultural team while complying with regulatory standards and Sharia principles.
