About the Role and Company
Join Parsons in Riyadh as a Project Sustainability Manager, tasked with overseeing environmental and sustainability efforts on a significant public realm development in Diriyah. This initiative includes the creation of iconic parks, open spaces, and over 55 kilometers of streetscape designed to foster a vibrant, inclusive community enhancing accessibility and quality of life. Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the lead for environmental management and sustainability on-site, reporting directly to the Project Director/Construction Director.
- Develop and manage the Environmental Management Plan and Sustainability Plan, ensuring compliance with Parsons standards, client needs, and regulatory requirements.
- Review and approve contractors’ related plans including Environmental & Sustainability Plans, CEMP, Waste Management, and Pollution Prevention Plans to align with project goals.
- Monitor construction operations to ensure adherence to local environmental laws, permit obligations, and sustainability benchmarks such as resource conservation and carbon footprint reduction.
- Conduct periodic environmental and sustainability inspections and audits, identify issues, and enforce corrective measures promptly.
- Oversee management of environmental factors like waste, noise, dust, air and water quality, soil preservation, ecology, and hazardous substances following project standards.
- Coordinate environmental monitoring activities and review findings to ensure appropriate responses.
- Collaborate with HSE, construction, and design teams to embed sustainability principles in construction practices, materials, waste management, and logistics.
- Support implementation and documentation for sustainability rating systems such as LEED, Envision, or equivalents, including communication with external assessors.
- Provide technical guidance on environmental best practices and sustainable construction methods to project and contractor teams.
- Lead environmental incident investigations, conduct root cause analysis, and manage corrective action tracking.
- Organize and deliver environmental and sustainability training sessions and toolbox talks for staff and contractors.
- Liaise with client representatives, regulatory bodies, and third-party auditors to ensure thorough oversight of environmental and sustainability aspects.
- Prepare and manage environmental reporting, including weekly/monthly reports, KPI dashboards, and stakeholder presentations.
- Identify environmental risks and opportunities early, incorporating them into the project risk register and mitigation strategies.
- Support project handover and close-out by verifying environmental commitments and documentation are complete and sustainability goals are met.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Sustainability, or a closely related discipline from an accredited institution.
- Proven experience in environmental management or sustainability roles on large-scale construction or infrastructure projects, ideally in site-based capacities.
- Comprehensive knowledge of environmental regulations and permitting protocols applicable in Saudi Arabia or the GCC.
- Track record of implementing Environmental Management Systems and sustainable construction techniques on major projects.
- Familiarity with green building certification programs such as LEED, Envision, BREEAM, or Mostadam; holding relevant certifications is beneficial.
- Demonstrated capability to spearhead environmental programs, perform audits, and influence contractor compliance.
- Excellent communication, coordination, and report writing skills to effectively engage with clients, regulatory agencies, and contractors.
- Understanding of integrating environmental requirements within HSE management systems at projects.
- Prior experience working in KSA or the wider GCC region is preferred.
