Overview

The Project Director for EPC Power leads the comprehensive delivery of large engineering, procurement, and construction projects within the power industry. This includes thermal, combined-cycle, renewable energy, and transmission/substation developments. The individual is responsible for ensuring projects are executed safely, on time, within budget, and meet all technical and quality standards while managing complex collaborations among clients, consortium partners, and regulators.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee all stages from contract award through engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and handover, ensuring integration with the overall project schedule.
  • Serve as the primary accountable leader for project performance, proactively addressing cross-functional challenges affecting time or costs.
  • Manage interfaces across engineering disciplines (civil, mechanical, electrical, I&C) and construction teams to confirm designs are practical, compliant, and aligned with technical specs, resolving design modifications and conflicts promptly to prevent delays.
  • Supervise procurement for critical equipment (turbines, generators, transformers, switchgear, balance-of-plant systems), ensuring supplier selection, expediting, and logistics maintain critical path schedules.
  • Executive oversight of construction activities, sequencing work fronts efficiently, monitoring subcontractor performance, and ensuring quality standards are met.
  • Coordinate pre-commissioning and commissioning phases with OEMs to ensure reliable start-up and successful performance testing.
  • Maintain strict control of cost and scheduling baselines using earned value analysis, variance tracking, and implementing corrective actions safeguarding project margins.
  • Manage contracts, change orders, and claims to protect the organization's commercial interests.
  • Lead a safety-first culture adhering to relevant HSE and process safety standards for high-voltage and high-pressure infrastructure, promoting proactive hazard identification and incident prevention.
  • Act as the main interface for clients, consortium partners, financiers, and regulatory bodies, ensuring transparent reporting and resolving issues to support smooth execution and future business prospects.
  • Maintain a detailed risk register, preemptively addressing technical, commercial, and scheduling risks with mitigation and contingency strategies, escalating key issues as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with grid codes, interconnection standards, and international engineering codes while strengthening quality assurance across all project phases to guarantee defect-free delivery and successful client handover.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Civil Engineering, or related fields required. Master's degree in Engineering Management, Project Management, or Business Administration preferred.
  • Project management certification such as PMP or PRINCE2 highly desired.
  • 15-18 years of experience managing large-scale EPC power projects, including 6-8 years in senior project leadership roles.
  • Demonstrated success in directing multidisciplinary teams through full project lifecycles from FEED through commissioning on thermal, combined-cycle, renewable, or transmission projects.
  • Extensive expertise in contract administration, claims handling, and commercial negotiations under FIDIC or equivalent contracts.

Core Competencies

  • In-depth knowledge of power generation technologies, grid interconnection, and EPC models.
  • Strong command of project controls, earned value management, and commercial oversight.
  • Experience in coordinating engineering and construction activities for complex power infrastructure.
  • Proficiency in risk management and stakeholder engagement.
  • Leadership in HSE, process safety, and quality assurance on large multi-contractor sites.
