Project Controls Specialist, Internal Audit

Position Overview

We are seeking a seasoned project controls expert with hands-on experience in EPC project teams involving cost reporting, scheduling, and managing variation logs. This role shifts the focus towards independent assurance, applying technical expertise in cost engineering, planning, earned value management (EVM), and claims to critically evaluate the accuracy of other project teams' data rather than generating it yourself. This is an excellent opportunity for senior project control engineers or cost/planning leads looking to expand their responsibilities into risk management, governance, and gaining multi-project insight without losing connection to the technical aspects of EPC project delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyze cost reports, forecasts, and cost-to-complete estimates across UCC's EPC and capital projects, including joint venture (JV) structured ventures, to verify their credibility.
• Examine schedule validity by reviewing critical path logic, delay analyses, and extension of time (EOT) claims as though you were part of the project team but focused on audit.
• Evaluate variation orders, claims, and contractual entitlements comprehensively and ensure they are adequately supported with documentation.
• Assess the performance data and progress tracking techniques used by contractors and subcontractors.
• Develop structured review frameworks like Risk Control Matrices for project controls methodologies, with training provided if necessary.
• Produce clear, engaging reports of findings that are accessible to project directors and commercial departments.
• Engage collaboratively with project directors, controls managers, and contracts teams to discuss findings and establish action plans.
• Ensure follow-through on issues identified, overseeing closure rather than merely reporting them.

Candidate Profile

• Possess an engineering degree in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, or related disciplines.
• Have 6 to 8 or more years of experience in project controls focused on cost engineering, planning/scheduling, or contracts/commercial aspects within EPC, construction, or infrastructure projects.
• Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of EPC contract frameworks, claims management, variations, and joint venture project structures.
• Be experienced in examining cost and schedule data rigorously to detect inconsistencies or inaccuracies.
• Exhibit strong written communication skills, able to translate technical complexities into clear points for non-technical stakeholders.
• Hold relevant certifications such as PMP, CCP, or other recognized project management or project controls credentials.
