Job description

Job Overview and Responsibilities

As a Project and Hookup Facilities Engineer II, you will lead and manage projects ensuring that utilities are delivered on schedule while adhering to quality, safety, and Soitec standards. Your primary focus will be on overseeing the installation, testing, and commissioning of key mechanical and cleanroom systems vital to semiconductor manufacturing processes.

  • Lead project management activities to guarantee timely completion and compliance with Soitec requirements across mechanical systems such as chillers, HVAC, process exhaust, CDA, and process vacuum.
  • Supervise cleanroom systems encompassing Make-Up Air Units (MAU), Fan Filter Units (FFUs), pressurization, temperature and humidity control, AMC Filters, and maintain cleanroom certification (ISO 4 to ISO 6/7 zones) including air balancing and laminar flow.
  • Ensure precision in environmental controls within the cleanrooms, emphasizing strict adherence to semiconductor tolerances regarding temperature, humidity, room pressure, particle control, AMC, outgassing minimization, and electrostatic discharge (ESD) prevention.
  • Review and validate contractor designs, submittals, P&IDs, 3D BIM models, and technical specs to align with Soitec’s standards, system owners' expectations, local regulations, international loss prevention standards, and operational reliability objectives.
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve energy efficiency for new installations.
  • Lead coordination meetings and maintain communication among contractors, system owners, senior management, and other stakeholders to synchronize plans, resolve conflicts, and ensure smooth execution.
  • Manage critical documentation including drawings, Building Information Models (BIMs), and software programs.
  • Ensure all punch list and defect items are completed satisfactorily.

Ownership of Hookup Systems

  • Coordinate preparation and execution of tool hookup packages, including Utility Connection Points (UCP), Point of Use (POU) regulation, and utility line sizing for incoming process tools.
  • Design and install cabling, piping, and duct connections from main utility headers—for electrical, IT networks, CDA, exhaust, UPW, gases, chemicals, PCW, and PVAC—to designated tool interface points.
  • Work closely with facilities, equipment, and production system owners to plan hookup operations minimizing production disruptions, delays, and defects.

Expansion Projects and Other Assignments

  • Conduct ongoing capacity studies with a five-year outlook to support improvement and expansion planning.
  • Provide leadership and support for future facility system expansions and renovations.
  • Undertake additional assignments and projects as necessary, including covering responsibilities during the absence of other engineers.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Possession of a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Facilities Management, or a closely related field.
  • At least two years of experience managing semiconductor cleanrooms and a minimum of two years working as an M&E Facilities Engineer within semiconductor manufacturing.
  • Practical experience with semiconductor tool hookup design, construction oversight, and tool sign-off protocols is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with semiconductor mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Knowledge of Facilities Management Control Systems (FMCS), PLC/SCADA architectures, and variable speed drive control loops.
  • Ability to work independently with strong organizational skills, attention to detail, self-motivation, and multitasking capability.
  • Proficiency in interpreting P&IDs, isometric drawings, and 3D BIM models (such as Revit and Navisworks), CAD layouts, along with mandatory skills in MS Word and Excel.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate and lead cross-functional teams.
  • Logical and systematic thinking, with keen attention to detail.
