Role Overview

Based in Twizel, this hands-on position involves supporting Meridian's diverse generation assets including hydro, wind, battery energy storage systems, and solar. The PLC Technician will engage deeply in diagnosing and fixing faults, performing minor modifications, hardware upgrades, and commissioning tasks often on-site throughout the generation network.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identifying and resolving PLC faults and related issues both remotely and on location.
  • Assist maintenance crews during outages, testing, and site modification activities.
  • Maintaining updated documentation reflecting PLC modifications and compliance with standards.
  • Ensuring all software and physical installations meet Meridian’s quality and safety benchmarks.
  • Providing technical PLC support for various projects spanning hydropower and wind energy assets.

Candidate Profile

  • Demonstrated proficiency with Rockwell Automation PLC systems, specifically PLC5 and ControlLogix platforms.
  • Current electrical registration compliant with New Zealand regulations.
  • Strong experience in diagnosing root causes of PLC and automation faults alongside modifications in physical installations and OT networks.
  • Skilled in modifying and testing Rockwell PLC logic and associated hardware.
  • Effective communication skills to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and convey technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of hydro power plant equipment is an asset but not mandatory.
  • Enthusiasm for living in and traveling around Twizel.
