This highly visible role is based on the shop floor, requiring collaboration with Production Managers, Cell Leads, operators, and departments such as Purchasing, Stores, Engineering, Quality, and Order Management. You will oversee production progress, pinpoint bottlenecks and material shortages, and take necessary actions to keep high-priority orders on track.

Your role combines production planning and active expediting, providing clear production visibility to the wider business and aiding Manufacturing to meet delivery promises.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in daily and weekly production scheduling based on customer demand and business priorities, monitoring manufacturing work orders and adapting plans as needs evolve.
  • Maintain a strong on-floor presence by continually monitoring production orders, conducting status checks, and collaborating directly with production teams to ensure progress.
  • Detect and resolve production constraints and delays, prioritize urgent orders, and escalate risks that may impact customer deliveries.
  • Coordinate requirements for materials, tools, labor, and machinery, working alongside Purchasing and Stores to manage shortages, inventory levels, and supplier delivery schedules.
  • Work closely with Engineering and Quality departments to address drawing updates, technical queries, concessions, priority inspections, and non-conformance issues affecting production.
  • Track production and delivery metrics including On-Time Delivery, schedule adherence, lead times, Work In Progress, and overdue orders; maintain accurate ERP/MRP records and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Prior experience in production planning, expediting, scheduling, or coordinating manufacturing in an engineering or production setting.
  • Strong knowledge of shop floor manufacturing processes and ability to effectively engage production teams to grasp priorities and manage delivery risks.
  • Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems to administer production orders, material needs, inventory, and production planning data.
  • Excellent organizational and prioritization abilities to manage multiple production demands and rapidly adapt to shifting priorities or schedules.
  • Analytical mindset and problem-solving skills supported by advanced Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office use.
  • A proactive, hands-on attitude paired with a customer-oriented approach; effective communication and influencing abilities. Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing principles, capacity planning, and inventory control is advantageous.
