About the Role
Join Nestlé at their Harare, Zimbabwe facility as a Production Operator responsible for running processing and filling lines to produce high-quality food products. This position demands strict adherence to hygiene, safety, and quality controls alongside maintaining continuous, efficient production according to set production plans and instructions.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Ensure personal, product, and workplace safety at all times.
- Perform all production tasks aligned with Quality Management Systems, Standard Operating Procedures, and Work Instructions.
- Maintain cleanliness and hygiene of work areas and equipment as per Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) standards on daily, weekly, and monthly cycles.
- Stay updated and compliant with New Good Manufacturing Practices, quality standards, and report using business systems such as SAP, DMO, and generate GLOBE reports.
- Monitor HACCP-related critical control points (CCPs) and other operational preventive controls (OPRPs) conscientiously.
- Keep the workplace orderly, follow protocols including handwashing, appropriate clothing, zoning, shoe changes, beard covering, and maintain 5S standards.
- Set up and start equipment, control operational parameters, and document activities for product traceability.
- Maintain line efficiency and performance targets, including line logistics standards and First Time Quality (FTQ).
- Conduct inspections of production lines via checklists, replace filters, and participate in breakdowns, shutdowns, and cleaning operations.
- Collaborate effectively with supervisors, coworkers, and departments to meet objectives.
- Ensure accurate product packaging and proper batch coding following Nestlé’s coding system.
- Perform daily opening and closing cycle counts and cross-check material usage with SAP reports to maintain data accuracy.
- Adhere strictly to company policies, factory codes of conduct, and disciplinary lines.
- Follow First Expiry First Out (FEFO) inventory practices and ensure material usage is within recipe standards and targets.
- Keep all documentation up to date and correctly filed for compliance.
- Provide training to junior staff, preparing them as backups.
- Undertake additional tasks assigned by supervisors to support business needs.
- Maintain 5S workplace conditions continuously, report near-miss incidents, create One Point Lessons (OPLs), and develop visual standards when needed.
- Aim for minimal downtime and maximize production output.
- Perform sensory quality checks and report deviations immediately.
- Review documents regularly and suggest improvements.
- Support Non-Conformance Event (NCE) sustainability through effective Safety, Health and Environment (SHO) activities, developing key performance indicators, and applying problem-solving techniques such as GSTD and DMAIC.
Qualifications and Skills Required
- Minimum 3 to 4 years of relevant experience in food production line operations.
- Completion of A-Level education is required; a diploma is preferable.
- Proficient reading and writing skills in English.
- Intermediate to advanced computer literacy.
- Ability to operate and manage machinery, instruments, and devices safely and effectively.
- Strong communication skills.
- Good knowledge of Food Safety Systems.
