Production Network Manager, Backbone Engineering

Role Overview

Join Meta's Backbone and Edge Engineering team as a Network Engineering Manager, focusing on the Software Defined Express Backbone Network. This team architects, builds, and maintains one of the largest and most advanced networks globally. You will collaborate with experts across software, systems, IP, and optical networking to foster innovation and support network growth.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead as a technically proficient manager who actively engages in technical conversations and provides expert guidance.
• Steer and continuously evolve the technical roadmap to align with team goals and collaborative partner needs.
• Adapt to a dynamic and fast-changing environment by reprioritizing tasks based on new developments.
• Oversee engineers responsible for designing, scaling, deploying, and supporting the Express Backbone network infrastructure.
• Collaborate closely with backbone, edge, data center, hardware network engineering, and software infrastructure teams at Meta.
• Guide and nurture the professional growth of engineers by matching projects to their skills and career aspirations.
• Conduct regular performance evaluations, address challenges, and reward outstanding achievements.
• Work with recruiting specialists to expand the team, including interviewing, sourcing, conference participation, and onboarding.
• Effectively communicate and coordinate across multiple functions to advance engineering initiatives.

Qualifications

Minimum:

• Proven experience managing software engineering teams in networking-related fields.
• Strong understanding of networking concepts and distributed systems.
• Expertise in network management systems for extensive networks.
• Experience in recruiting, managing technical teams, and handling performance evaluations.
• Solid foundation in networking fundamentals.

Preferred:

• Demonstrated ability to leverage AI tools to streamline workflows and enhance outcomes.
• Background in software development and engineering for network control and management.
• Knowledge of network topology and capacity planning practices.
• At least four years managing MPLS and RSVP-TE based networks.
• Six or more years of program or product management experience.
• Ongoing engagement with AI technologies, including prompt engineering and agent orchestration.
• Experience implementing responsible and ethical AI protocols, such as risk evaluation and bias mitigation.
